I think we have by-passed austerity until the next time - lucky escape0 -
We've just about sneaked through without seeing how bad it *could* have got. If we'd been borrowing more, then we'd have been properly hosed by now.
This website's advice to PEOPLE in debt is to spend less, manage your finances, repay, get out of debt - same applies to governemnts. We all enjoyed the fruit of borrowing money to pay for the glory years, and now we have to pay it back. We don't have a realistic option of defaulting or people will REALLY see what austerity looks like.
Alas, 50,000 people, or even 20,000 - basically it's a small march. A MILLION marched against the Iraq invasion, for the good it did. A few tens of thousands is just daily noise for London.0 -

Any suggestions?"Facism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you... [it] doesn't walk in saying, "our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."0 -

It is just a global financial crisis problem.

Britons are feeling more optimistic than at any time for nine years according to the latest snapshot of consumer confidence, as economic recovery becomes more established. GfK's monthly tracker of the nation's mood rose from 0 in May to 1 in June – putting the index into positive territory for the first time since March 2005.

Still won't fill the hole. Take a look at the Treasury figures. There's an unaccounted for void that needs to be filled. Who ever is the Government of the day has some difficult decisions to make. Punch and Judy shows are all very well. What's required is some honest debate.0
