....Why do these people insist on marching in my city, by the way? It's busy here, it can be hard to get around on the roads, why not demonstrate somewhere else....

Easy transport links, good shopping, a wide variety and choice of restaurants....

...You can be pretty sure, if you cared enough to organise your march at the top of Snowden that you'd get an awful lot more publicity for it too.

There is a cafe and gift shop on top of Snowdon, but the choice is limited. And I'm not sure it's quite geared up to coping with 50,000 people arriving all at once.

If you can afford prawn sandwich premier football then money is no object.

Allowing for inflation the price of a premier match day ticket should be £16.......;)
  • [jimbob56789;65869080]this is the sort of thing borris bought the water cannons for.

More of 2011 riots to come if housing costs stay up here for much longer.

It seems like something is about to go down.

This is all in preparation for some major unrest.
  • I have been told off for calling lefties mentally ill - but I believe they must be. This whole "end auterity" march - do they not understand that there isn't any money available??? They just want want want with no concept of what is available - AND - what the tax payer actually wants to spend their tax money on.

There should be a percentage for the essentials - ie 70% for health, education, defence, police, courts, roads etc. The other 30% should be divided between those who want it - and the payer can vote on what it goes on. Sort of like the three choices at Waitrose for those green discs.

Then if they don't get money, they will need to realise that the public who is paying don't think it is deserving enough.
  • I dont think its as simple as an anti austerity problem.

It is just a global financial crisis problem.

    Cub Scout's motto, Be Prepared.

Being prepared to have to gut a bear with a swiss army knife does not mean that you are planning to do so. Being prepared for more "freedom fighters" looting the nearest Sports Direct doesn't mean, either, that you are about to provoke people into doing it.

If they were, they've been incredibly remiss in not letting us senior bankers know...

You know: of all the songs I've ever sung, that is the one I've had the most requests not to.
I have time for one more here. This one is a little song dedicated to the Boy Scouts of America. [applause] We seem to have a convention here tonight. The Boy Scouts of America, those noble little... bastions of democracy, and the American Legion of tomorrow. Their motto is... I would like to state at this time that I am not now and have never been... a member of the Boy Scouts of America. Their motto is, as you know, Be Prepared! and that is the name of this song.

Be prepared! That's the Boy Scout's marching song,
Be prepared! As through life you march along.
Be prepared to hold your liquor pretty well,
Don't write naughty words on walls if you can't spell.

Be prepared! To hide that pack of cigarettes,
Don't make book if you cannot cover bets.
Keep those reefers hidden where you're sure
That they will not be found
And be careful not to smoke them
    When the scoutmaster's around
For he only will insist that it be shared.
    Be prepared!

Be prepared! That's the Boy Scouts' solemn creed,
Be prepared! And be clean in word and deed.
Don't solicit for your sister, that's not nice,
Unless you get a good percentage of her price.

Be prepared! And be careful not to do
Your good deeds when there's no one watching you.
If you're looking for adventure of a
    new and different kind,
And you come across a Girl Scout who is
    similarly inclined,
Don't be nervous, don't be flustered, don't be scared.
    Be prepared!

It's a terrible idea, primarily because the idea that the average voter can make an educated decision about how much money is needed for different purposes is laughable.

However if you're going to do something stupid like this then why ring-fence your own definition of essential services? Surely if everyone agreed they were essential then they'd get the funding anyway. By separating them you're basically accepting that you can't trust people to make the right decision with the money, but yet still want to let them throw 30% away on god only knows what.

I doubt that the majority of the population realise that austerity hasn't even started yet. Some would say what recession. As so far things have been smoothed over using monetary policy. The really tough decisions are yet to follow.
