50,000 strong march in London

It looks like the revolution will be postponed for a while.
A number of posters in discussion time have been promising me a peoples revolt since about 2009, beginning in Athens.
As I said back then, without a viable alternative to capitalism, people have nowhere to go, hence no revolution required.0 -
real problem was the MASSIVE inflation of public sector salaries under the Labbour years. That set the country back numerous decades. They need pay freezes for the next 40 years to get them back to where they belong. Maybe if they hadn't been so greedy they would still have their gold plated magic pensions. That was the set off - lower wages, better pension. But the greedy ignorant public sector workers wanted both.0

But if you really want to dissect our shopping basket...around 150-200 per week on food and drink, around 80 on cigs, then the non-food stuff....
See. Told you so Graham. £80 on fags. I was right. Again.:)mayonnaise wrote: »...Less than 15 quid per person per day on food and drink, I wouldn't call that scoffing?
Antrobus Inc would go bust on a daily spend of 15 quid per capita on food and drink. Is this the cost of living crisis we keep hearing about?
Yes, that's the one.0 -
Is it the whopping 20,000 protesters here that makes you so confident :rotfl:
....
To give a sense of perspective.
In 2011 the TUC organised the March for the Alternative, an anti-cuts protest held on the 26th March. Somewhere between 250,000 and 500,000 people reportedly turned up. There was some violence and a few windows got smashed.

So, after three years of so-called austerity, the best the left can do is get (let's be generous here) 50,000 people to attend an anti-cuts march. That doesn't quite give me the impression that the revolution is imminent.0 -

The left always predict imminent revolution. It gives them a warm glow, and an excuse not to put in any effort yet, as next month (or soon, at least...) they'll be living in a wonderful socialist world* where someone else will apparently give them everything that they want.
*which is not, of course, marked by the repression, hunger disease, and crushing poverty that "proper" socialist states inevitably end up with. Those previous attempts, they only did it half-heartedly...0 -
What you all realise is that this is just to start of things to come... Civil unrest will increase..... Boris knows it.... With his BOGOF water cannons.... This dissatisfaction with the system is growing.... Example UKIP ..... This unrest will move politics... And policies... Such as capital gains on residential property investment.... Protection laws for tenants....so ..... buy to let as a career and living is on the cusp of changing
I've been trying to say this repeatedly in post after post..... and increases in house prices will make things worse....Peace.0 -

all the evidence is protest is reducing
incomes are rising
unemployment is falling
dis-satisfaction with immigration is indeed rising
dis-satisfaction with EU is rising too
true that some Scots are rebelling
so broadly, on balance and taking the events of the last 50 years into account, things are pretty much as they always have been.
and of course we do need to build more houses0 -
5 million people get paid less than the minimum wage................The_White_Horse wrote: »real problem was the MASSIVE inflation of public sector salaries under the Labbour years. So where exactly 'do they belong'? You mean bottom of the pile, lowest of the low? The arrogance of someone pontificating on the access to resources that others should be entitled to.....shameful! You talk about greedy ignorant public service workers but don't mention the tax dodging, 'cash in hand' barrow boy types I see every day. Thank you for again demonstrating the self interested bigotry and ignorance that empowers the struggle for change.0 -

Yes yes, next month you'll be the one laughing, we'll regret how we view you now, you'll get a beautiful girlfriend, too, and some proper respect.
You'll show us, you'll show us all...0 -

I'm not convinced that most residential property investors see it as their career, do you have any evidence to support this theory? I reckon most residential property investors are probably like me and have a career (I'm a chartered surveyor, although currently work as a university lecturer) and simply invest in property because they perceive it as a good investment.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0
