I checked all insurances, ulility providers etc a while ago and saved money. Then along came Cathy and she saved me a fortune on cleaning stuff. I also check this site before I buy anything to see if there's any offers on what I need. I'm now putting £50 a month in my Abbey account. I used Tony H's spreadsheets, and I can afford to give up work if I decide to ;D

What seems like a small saving on one thing is actually a huge saving if you apply it to everything you buy. So thank you to everyone, I'm very grateful ;D

  • I find that I save through squirrelling money away into quite a few savings accounts rather than making savings on necessities like food, shelter and bills.

A lot of my standing orders and direct debits are paid the day after payday, therefore, the money that goes into savings accounts is earning as much interest as it POSSIBLY can ;D

Still, I appreciate reading about the savings people have made and posted on this thread. Here are a few of my own.

Most work days I bring in a squash drink from home and save 80p a day :)

On most work days I also try to bring in lunch from home which is obviously less expensive than buying sandwiches :)

I have an Unlimited cinema card allowing me to see as many films as I like for £9.99 a month. I just need to make sure that I don't buy food at the cinema ;D

My annual season ticket to get to work is cheaper than buying one each month :-)

I look forward to reading more about savings.

I want to be a good saver, but I find it difficult to control my temptation to spend :o .

    I owe £1,247 more than I have in savings :( .

Saved £300 today on a large purchase simply by searching the web first, then asking the local supplier to compete. He not only competed, he beat all the web suppliers. I would have paid £100 more than he charged me, just for the benefit of going local -- but I didn't tell HIM that! ;D
I have five stars! This doesn't mean that I know anything about any of the things I post. I could be a raving lunatic, or a brilliant genius, or just some guy on the internet. In fact, I could be all three at the same time.

If anything I say makes sense, then do it. If not, don't. Don't blame me or my stars if you do something stupid because I suggested it. I'm responsible for my own stupidity only. You are responsible for yours.

Why, I don't even have five stars anymore! Aren't you glad you aren't responsible for my stupidity?

I read Martin's reminder about the deadline for misold endowments in an email a few months ago & thought "in for a penny".

I spent minutes reading the article on here & then half an hour looking at http://www.endowmentaction.co.uk/ website.

I then d/l the standard letter sent it off & less than 3 months later had an offer of more than £2k as I was mis sold.

Balearics here I come. Cheers Martin.

My savings in comparison to the above seem very slight, but I'm chuffed anyway.

I have just received my phone bill (internet) from 18866, and nearly fell over...it was.......£4.00. That was for 47 phone calls, which broke down like this:

    23 International Calls (Switz)
    12 Mobiles
    12 Other

    Duration: 3.5 hours

The actual cost of calls was £3.60 and Vat of 40p

I haven't compared this to original costings....but I know that this is well below the cost of my previous bills. I am now using 18866 for all local calls at these are .5p per minute

Have just registered, having been recommended to the site.

Have already saved £90 on my car insurance this year. :-*

Moving in a few weeks, so will be checking all those other areas - building/house insurance, domestic bolls etc.

Thanks for getting all this info together. :D

£500 interest received (0% balance transfer)

    This now exceeds £3000 :)
The phrase "stooze on" springs to mind but I guess I have to wait for the poll results on that one...

Also over £200 from Boots recently.
Two mobile phones which I have effectively been paid to take away (£35 each)
    Numerous casino bonuses.

The list - and the savings - just keeps growing...
