I've been wanting to post in here for the longest time, but couldn't get things together until recently.... ???
First of all, thanks to Martin's tip on 0% for life Barclaycard, (and to Pablo Money's hardworking efforts to send me an application form) my husband switched to the new card and presto, we're now saving roughly
£700 a year.
Add to this, our recent gas/electricity switchover from Seeboard to Stay Warm (my disabled mom is living with us) and that's about another £300 a year
Which makes a grand total of £1,000 or thereabouts. ;D
But, because we've just purchased a property for letting purposes (deal closed last week), we'll probably be saving even more ££££ on buying appliances etc, to furnish the (tiny) place --- (that is, if I can find out where to look for the moneysaving tips on furnishings and white goods.... ???)
Hooray for Martin! You really should get an award for all this, you know. If you add up all the people out there who have gained financial help or lowered their debts because of your website and tips, well, it's like you are becoming a 'Financial Mother Theresa' or something. (More likely the latter. ;D )
Here's a humongous THANK YOU to Martin & all the nice folks on MSE who so generously take the time to help financially-challenged people.....like me! :-*0 -
Hi Rachelle!!

Hi,
Since signing up with MSE on 1st February I have made the following savings:-
More than halved monthly phone bill, usually around £20-£25 a month, now just over £7 by signing up with https://www.18866.co.uk.
Reduced phone bill with BT by £12 a year changing to Direct Debit payment.
Made £50 on balance transfer with Cahoot. (Can I get the money paid into my bank account or do I have to spend it?)
Possible saving of £100+ on DVD player, still considering Amazon one at £30 odd.
Reduced electricity bill by 6% by paying by Direct Debit and will also gain around £80 on top of this a year in Argos Premier point vouchers (good for Xmas presents).
Also, the saving on Martin's book when it comes out soon, I'll be buying it for sure.
I'm a bookaholic, Borders is my middle name. Any chance of a signed copy, please Martin?Sorry, forgot about your RSI. Unfortunately, can't make it to your party in London, too far away live in Inverness and being a single parent with two little ones, out of the question, pity. Dying to get hold of your book though. Pretty hooked now, being a SP saving a few quid here and there certainly helps us out. Thanks a whole lot. It's great to read other peoples' tips and views etc, very useful site and the fact that it is sponsored and therefore free to users is brilliant. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
I recommend the site to everyone I talk to. When is your next TV appearance Martin? Saw you on Big Spender and I got hold of your link through the Big Spender site.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0 -
Thank you so much Martin.
We first came across you when you were on Simply Money. You introduced us to The Free Internet (don't use them any more, but they revolutionised my internet usage at the time) and also PostOptics, which I still use for cheaper contact lens solutions.
Came across your site in October 03 and am fast becoming addicted. We saved around £140 changing gas and electricity suppliers. Have saved loads by using TalkTalk and 18866. Have used some of the online voucher promotions suggested by other money savers (thank you to everyone who kindly posts offers on the site!) and have also saved a good deal on cosmetics from the thread on the site.
It's brilliant! ;D ;D ;D ;DCarpe diem0 -
Hello all.
The good news - my capital one card came through today! Hurahh!!! And my accounts are showing my costs as being £160.84 better off a months compared to 2 months ago - mostly because of the fabulous wealth of information I've pruned from this site. This figure is my set monthly costs - ie bills.
In real terms I'm set to save £1900 this year and there are still areas to tackle:
Mortgage
Shopping
Fuel
Car costs
And much more.
Not bad for 6 weeks of reading this site - thanks all!!! And well done Martin.Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -
I could just list the small but important savings I have made over the few months I've used this site and very grateful I am too, but I thought I would tell you how much I FOUND instead.
When I took the tip to see if my mortgage would be cheaper(better rate)with someone else(it is by the way)I FOUND £1,937 :46P,
Where did I find it?
In the hands of my mortgage people
When sorting through paper work ,like mortgage insurance papers,I realised we had been paying TWICE for a policy for 6 years
Luckily it was a genuine mistake and I got the money back in a lovely cheque approximately 3 months after my first visit to the site.
So, it wasn't strictly a saving ,more like savings account, but thank you anyway.
I also learnt my lesson.
I check everything THREE times now
PS My husband was very pleased too til I managed to spend most of it on new furniture.
How does it go
FINDERS KEEPERS!!!!!!0 -
here we go ,first heard martin on talk sport before christmas 2003 ,heard you talking about pricerunner and kelkoo.
was buying a new t.v. at the time so checked pricerunner for comparison and the same tv was £1100 on one site and only £849 on another
£251 saving,
changed my broadband to the reduced service from telewest 256 connection
£8 a month saving,
changed my gas and electric to one supplier online and got cashback plus yet undetermined saving.
£20 cashback plus yet unknown saving,
recently transfered my credit card balance of £600 to new 0% card for transfers for nine months .
all i can think of just know but i know there has been others .
excellent site .
when is the book out0 -
I finally did it! I have added up how much this website has saved me, well, for me its probably more how much has this website made me, so here goes:
£50 cashback from Halifax
£50 cashback cahoot
£6 on betting (never was very good at that)
£79.31 from approx 6 months credit card cash in my savings account
£24 off an Orange mobile phone
and £80 worth of M&S vouchers from the Unison credit card (supposed to be £40 but they made a mistake, ssssh!)
So, thats, £289.31!
Holy cow!
;D ;D ;DThanks!!0 -
After the first time i spotted Martin on This Morning I switched my endowment mortgage (which was NOT on target) to a repayment mortgage. Saving £92 per month, with the knowledge that the mortgage will be paid at full term. ;D
Switched gas and electricity, saving £100 per year.
Constantly chopping and changing credit cards to 0% saving £60 per month.
Cheers Martin mwoah!!0 -
cant say how much i have saved, didnt find this site until recently
over the past years, i have saved money on various items ie insurance, credit cards etc,
to find this site which not only confirmed other ways of doing the same and saving even more money, I will following some of them, ie gas/electric I will report back
i already class my self as a credit card tart. one thing i would add is, if you pay off a card by transferring the money elsewhere, make sure you contact the ccard company and get them to cancel the account, this is due to the credit rating agencies.....
the travelodge £25 offer has come at the ideal moment, I live on the south coast and my family has been invited to a wedding in wales, the cost of an overnight stay has been halved easily..
thank yousmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....
