Well I only found this site a few months ago but as you can see by my post count I have been a busy bee on here :D I am still living at home and was always quite good with money (i.e. finding the best deals around) but finding this site has saved me even more. I haven't kept a monetary tally but its probably around the £1000 plus mark.

    1) I have found better websites to use for specific price comparisons.
    2) I have joined Pigsback.com thus getting cds, dvds etc free every so often.
    3) The bargains I have found posted on here have been great as well - these bargains don't tend to be "advertised" by any of the companies so I would never have found them otherwise :D
    4) I joined Quidco.com (a cashback cooperative) and am now getting money back when shopping online (which is how I do the majority of my shopping).
    5) The Tesco codes are BRILLIANT :D Finally convinced my mum that she would save more if she did occasional shops online using the codes available - she is now a convert.
    6) Discovered that Tesco accept non-store specific vouchers (if they stock the product) again after a great deal of explaining that it works and that I do it all them time - I convinced my mum to try it - she is now voucher mad! :D
    7) I am now roped into doing loads of friends Christmas shopping for them as I get the best deals and the best prices !! :D

There are numerous other ways I have saved myself or others in my family/friends money thanks to Martin and this site. So thank you all for the site, the contributions and the friendly atmosphere :D I am here to stay :D
  • I have saved £50 on car hire with Avis using the code given on this site. Thanks!!!!
  • 1. Saved according to the switch site 16% a year on my Gas/Electric bill (£100+) plus a cheque for £12.50 should arrive next month. Could have been £25 if I had switched to 2 different providers but I only chose the 1.

    2. Received my Play.com voucher for £5.

    3. Recieved a £10 free bet for depositing £25 into my Totalbet account, which won £42. Luckily the initial £25 also won me £75. A small risk involved for putting the money on a handful of hot favorite football teams to win.

    4. Bought the fine Money Saving Diet book for half price (£3.99) on Amazon along with a PS2 game for the kids so postage was also free.

    5. Sent off for a few freebies.

All in all I seem to be better of by over £200 already with finding this site less than a week ago.

Cheers for the info and keep up the good work.
  • I am really thankful to Martin as I have saved at least £1000.00 if not more through different deals, advice from other members and reading activities by other members

Its the best consumer site without the shadow of a doubt and Martin is definitely doing a NOBLE JOB through this site

Moved house about 4 weeks ago, when we took out the mortgage we took out all the insurances with it - bad move I know but it was just easier at the time. I was going to wait 'til after xmas to get better deals, but after watching MMR I decided to do it now. So I have saved £40 a month on Life insurance, £10 on B&C insurance, £30 on mortgage protection and about £5 on the phone bill. We needed a new Xmas tree, B&Q had one reduced from £100 to £35 - only display model left when we got there, OH got it for £20 and it's huge(7ft high & about 5ft wide).
  • Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum, but have been visiting the site regularly since last year.

We saw an advert for RAC car insurance last night and even though ours isn't due for another 8 months I thought I'd get a quote. I was amazed to find that for our two cars it worked out over £350 cheaper! I then thought I'd log on to our current insurer and get a quote as if I was a new customer, and I couldn't believe it when their quote came in at over £350 cheaper as well! Our insurance had systematically risen virtually every year, and we have been with this company 6 years wouldn't you think they'd pass the good deals on to their loyal customers. Needless to say I logged on to Money saving expert for tips, my idea was to cancel my insurance today and then log straight on and buy new policies from the same company we're with now (but as new customers), I found the exact same advice under the Insurance section of this site.

So I phoned our insurance company today, I was concerned that seeing as we had paid in full up front that we wouldn't get a refund. But that was not the case and we have been refunded the full 8 months that we haven't used yet and furthermore they confirmed that it was perfectly ok for us to cancel and then buy new policies from them online straight after! How stupid is that? Why not offer the cheaper option to start with. The 8 month refund at the old price has paid for a FULL year at the new price, in effect saving us over £350 with just one phone call.

Plus the £700 from stoozing last year......

Fantastic, I'm so glad I was given a link to this site :j

    I love saving money!

I am a new member having joined only last week.So far I have saved £500...I rang my mobile phone company " orange" and followed Martin's instructions and rather than lose my custom they included 120 texts per month, upgraded my phone ,included free insurance which is usually £5 per month (not that I was paying it), and then added £90 credit .....I pay £25 per month for 500 minutes....that's about 150 quids worth.
My buildings insurance is due so I thought I would have a go and followed the link to confused .com....I was able to knock £275.78 off my buildings insurance....and then I followed another link to get a pre paid prescription and saved another £62.80.....i have also changed my gas and electricity but am not yet sure what the saving will be.....and I have only been here a week. Thanks very much, Martin

In the last 10 mins alone I have saved myself £70 per month.....transferred CC balance to a 0% till November deal (saving=£50p/m) and 2 DD's I realised I didn't need got cancelled saving £20.

Have changed Gas supplier, and will find out if I have saved much there next month - last bill was £73 for one month, so anything is an improvement!!

Saved a bit on my car insurance - the figure from Morethan came though at £220 - but as I "was" a old customer of theirs they dropped this down to £190. Left it as that - then saw a post here about Lloyds TSB offering £70 cashback on insurance take out as a form of cashback though greasypalm. Done a quote though them and it came out £10 cheaper than morethan to £210, and a £70 credit to GreasyPalm - so my insurance will cost me only £140 this year!
