DWP dirty tactics

Here’s a dirty trick the DWP attempted to use on me.
Applied for JSA on a Saturday. On a bank holiday Monday, I received call from a withheld number at 10am. It gave 5 rings and I didn’t answer it.
On Wednesday, I received a letter stating that the DWP have attempted to contact me by phone. I called straight away to reply to their query. Their next letter, informed me that my claim would be starting on the Wednesday as I hadn’t taken their initial phone call.
I rang them to patiently explained that I had never received a phone call. They said that they had contacted me on the morning of the Bank Holiday. I patiently explained that they were closed on Bank Holidays. They said its a different company that calls and as I hadn’t answered, that delayed my claim.
I visited the Job Center where a nice adviser explained to me that this was a new tactic of theirs, to cut peoples money. They have a quota to cut peoples benefits.
I rang Glasgow DWP and reminded them that by law, my claim starts the day I contacted them online. They then amended my start date to the correct date.
Be aware of these dirty tactics. If you’re treated unfairly, do some research and remind them of your rights and the law. Every time they attempt a sanction, or alter the dates of your claim, research and fight back. Ask to see things in writing. Tell useless, arrogant advisers that you would like to have some help with looking for work, and you don't appreciate their arrogant attitudes.
Don't allow yourself to be treated like dirt for pennies.
If you're following the rules you're entitled to social security.

actually your claim doesnt start on the day you contact them ... it starts 3 days after.
and i dont believe that a job centre advisor told you that this is their new 'tactic' to save money.
they DID try to contact you. why did you give them your mobile number ... count how many times it rand and yet didnt bother to answer it?

the OP applied on a saturday ( presumably online) and so would probably be a new claim and the 4 days wait would apply

Actually, the payment starts 3 days after the claim. The claim itself starts the day you contact them.
I couldn't care less what you do and don't believe.
I don't answer withheld numbers. Do you have a problem with that?
If you don't like this thread, then don't read it. Take your ignorant attitude elsewhere.0 -
It seems this thread will attract right wing no bodies, so I will leave.
For those of you dealing with the DWP, like I said know your rights and your entitlements.
For the social security haters, if you don't like the social security of the UK, there are plenty of other countries social security. I suggest you move to one.0 -

Why don't you move abroad then? As you seem to be the only one on this thread making complaints and verbally threatening people who ask you a relevant question.0 -

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
You have said anything to convince me their decision to call you on a bank holiday is a target tactics to defer by a day or two to pay claimants. On which basis to you make that assumption besides hearsay?0

Moral of the story, answer the telephone.
If it's someone you don't want to talk to hang up, it's not rocket science.
Only one at fault is you really, not the DWP.0
