Families where all parents work, how do you cope?

  • I have 2 kids... Myself and my other half work full time.

In the last 6 months my 2 year old has had croupe, chicken pocs, hand foot and mouth and recently tonsillitis!

I am in a lucky position as I am set up to work from home 4 days a week and in the office one day. I still need full time childcare though as could not work with a toddler running about.

During my children's sickness spells I keep them and home with me.. Explain to my boss the situation.. And try to work my best around them... Maybe logging on early, doing a split shift or doing the bulk of my work load when my OH returns from his job.

when I had my kids I made the decision not to work full time. I worked mainly part-time or temp jobs. I was lucky that my OH worked full time. I would suggest that if you want to -re-enter the workforce you don't look in the conventional direction. but take jobs you can do at your own discretion and in YOUR time.
for me at one time it was Bar work, OH worked days and a few hours out in the evening three days a week was 'bliss' - I felt guilt at getting paid for it! my mum loved her early morning cleaning job at a local primary school! there is also 'mystery shopper' that's mainly school hours. and the beauty of temp/part time jobs is that it isn't held against you if you need to leave suddenly.
