OP. RTI (Return to invoice) insurance is usually for a 2 or 3 year term so check your paperwork carefully. Hopefully you took it out when you bought the car :)

Yes there are grooves in the tyre, but where are the sipes? This is what the people who are suggesting are actually getting at, but without using the correct terminology.

The tyre looks dodgy in the photo, but it may well just be a bad photo.

There are 4 snipes visible on the inside of the tyre on the portion of the tyre just below the area masked by the wheel arch liner, Below that maybe the tyre was damaged by the collision, maybe its a bad angle, but those 4 show there's enough tread.

I suspect the answer to that would be the victim - and op.

No one died - fantastic. But now both parties are going to be inconvenienced - and one party through no fault of their own. I suspect the answer to this is everybody

Absolutely. On 6th June my motorcycle was hit from behind, at speed, whilst I was stationary waiting to enter an A1M exit roundabout.

God knows how I managed to keep the bike upright, but despite being punted into the traffic on the roundabout I was able to keep on it and ride over the n/s and stop.

I was fine, just a bit surprised by the whole thing and whilst I'm grateful that I'm not dead having been rolled over by the 60+MPH traffic I was suddenly forced into, I've now been without a bike for nearly two weeks, it's likely I'll end up with a repaired bike which will never be the same mint condition as it was before and therefore lower in value, or a cheque which won't cover the cost of me replacing it with an equal machine.

So yeah, I care. The silly fu**er driving his works van won't be bothered though.

Sincerely hope the OP wasn't 'momentarily distracted' by a text message, Facebook, or a phone call, or the damage could be worse than just a car. The police just love to check those things these days.

Is RTI insurance the same as Gap Insurance? I've checked and I DO have a three year Gap insurance, so that's great.

Absolutely not. I was checking my right side for bikes, and glanced away from the road for a second. In that time the cars in front had stopped. Since we were travelling close together (due to traffic), we hit him even with me breaking hard and swerving.

Well, what I was getting at was that everybody was ok and nobody was seriously hurt.

But yeah, if you want to have a pop, go ahead, I couldn't care less.

Personally I'm just glad the occupants of the cars weren't badly hurt.

The crinkle is cosmetic, its the inner frame work that would have me concerned, I can see that the top of the quarter panel with the boot has dropped and the rear door jam gap is almost non existent to me this says its more than a rear floor boot pan and rear boot area frame work damage.

Yep. Exactly what I was thinking when I said the wrinkle. It's not so much the wrinkle itself, it's what's behind it. That wrinkle says there's a fair bit of force got a fair way into the structure.

Actually I've just realised something. The car went for a full service a month ago. The garage would have picked up any bad tread on the tyres then! So they're definitely okay.

..and if not I can probably sue the garage who did the service.

Umm, no. It's your responsibility as the driver to check your tyres regularly. And, for all anybody knows, you've spent the last month wheel-spinning around McDogbits car park to impress the teenage Sharons.

RTI is Return To Invoice, so will pay out enough for you to replace it with a new car.
Gap covers the gap between the value immediately before you stuffed it, and the remaining finance, so will ensure you walk away owing nothing.

    I think that's unlikely.

So, I'm a 22 year old male with five years clean full driving license. This is my first ever crash..

We all thought my passenger (actually my SO!) had smacked his head into the windscreen, causing the crack. But it seems it was just the airbag deploying.

I know you've already resigned yourself to being at fault, and this is not me having a go at you, just offering advice; but I would seriously consider whether to use that turn of phrase when interviewed by the coppers. Could turn an 'accident' into 'driving without due care and attention'.

As a motorcyclist I can't help checking over my shoulder for things even in the car, but I wouldn't expect that to take so long that I wouldn't still be able to stop if the cars in front did when I looked back forward. End of the day, if you can't stop in time, you were too close to the car in front.
