Great. Well let's hope it's just a bad picture. :/

I think it might be, when I zoomed in I think I could see the tread markers in the middle, suggesting there is plenty of tread there, in which case it's most likely fine.

I always think the worst, that way outcomes tend to be much nicer!

At the end of the day it's just a car, you can't replace yourself.

Driving with a tyre without the required tread you can get 3 penalty points and a fine, it can in some cases invalidate your insurance, but I don't know how common that really is.
As with all roadworthiness issues, the insurer could only use it as grounds to refuse a claim if they could show that it actually caused, or at least significantly contributed to the accident.

For info on how the value of the car is (or should be) assessed see here

Check your insurance as some will replace a new car. You might end up with the new model.

Bought about a year ago. Worth checking if it was more or less, and if your insurer replaces it with a new car within the first year. edit - great minds think alike.

Not wanting to put even more of a downer on things, but is your offside front tyre legal? Doesn't look great from the pic :|

Look properly, loads of tread left. Eye test?

Agreed. As Gwylim says, the TWIs are clearly visible, with a shadow from the tread next to them.

Likewise. What age was the Passat? That crinkle in the rear wing says "EXPENSIVE".

I'm quite surprised at the ambulance and the head-print in the Hyundai passenger side windscreen. Passenger not belted in?

We crashed directly outside the racecourse entrance. An ambulance was just within the racecourse grounds, posted on duty for the races! So they rushed right over about 60 seconds after the crash.

We all thought my passenger (actually my SO!) had smacked his head into the windscreen, causing the crack. But it seems it was just the airbag deploying.
