problems inheriting nectar points from deceased mother

thank you for your kind response to SimonSays nasty comment, I don't know if his opposition to the concept inheritance goes beyond my mother's nectar card
for the record since SS questions my motives my mother came from a very poor background, she shared a toothbrush with her sibs when she was a child during WW2 - it coloured her to an extent, even a small amount of money was a lot to her and probably that the case for a lot of her generation. I can easily afford to forgo the £50, £100 or £300 that she accrued but I feel my mother would be very upset to feel she had been acquiring money for a complete stranger and I feel I owe it to her to fight for every penny of her inheritance especially when it looks like she's been exploited.0 -
Just to stop everyone thinking of conspiracies for a moment!
when she started doing online orders it will have asked her to type her card number in. You say the numbers of possible different cards are very similar. Is it not just possible a couple of digits were mistyped and unfortunately were someone's valid card number.
Seems more likely to me than something nefarious.
thanks but I don't think so - yes I thought of that the numbers are completely different though
I think there would have been no typing (no PC) - it would have been done by phone
I would be interested to know the process though - whether sainsburys automatically ask for a nectar card for deliveries and if they check the name and if it needs to be rechecked every delivery or presented at delivery etc
I am amenable to alternative theories - I don't think of it as a conspiracy - I can think of no alternative ( I don;t think her card was stolen since her death) but would be delighted for sainsburys to investigate and give me an alternative - doubt they will though.0 -
So did your mother never get statements, voucher packs etc from nectar?0

thanks, nearlyrich
I now think Sainsburys didn't tell nectar that was my mums card (we found 3 cards for my mum with more or less the same number, a different number).
they told nectar that the order number for my mums delivery was associated with that nectar card.
I think what happened was since late 2010 after her fall my mum became housebound and had sainsburys deliveries.
at that point her account became associated by sainsburys with the nectar card of a different person ... and all deliveries since then have been card-not-present automatic topups to that card.
at least it means she probably hasn't accrued £300 + of points on that card but I think she probably did acrrue £50-£100 of points (for this other personb) with regular deliveries over that time - £40 a week often more every week.
and it might mean her "previous" (only, real) card has expired with loss of points due to lack of use.
I can speculate that a sainsburys employee deliberately applied his/her or a friends card. if not fraudulent this seems at least dushonest. I can't think of a reasonable alernative explanation for what has happened and I doubt Sainsburys will investigate thoroughly without being forced. I'd like to think its a police matter - if I took £50 that wasn't mine they'd investigate
I found my nectar card after not having used it for over 5 years. I called nectar and they were able to reinstate the account after deducting some points as an administration fee. Good luck with sorting this out!0 -

As far as I can tell orders are done on line only, at the registration stage for deliveries asks for the nectar card number and then stores the number against that account, did any one help her? Somebody else could of done her shopping for her and she just paid that person, which could explain the different numbers of the cards0 -
Anmarj, sainsburys are the only supermarket to allow phone deliveries, mum had no computer, couldn't use one
Only my wife or I ever shopped for her and we would use our own nectar card0 -
thanks, I did check my number and its not similar either.
anyway if the card was mine I'd have thought nectar or sainsburys would have told me
I've now contacted sainsburys with up to date situation and await their response.
I can still only imagine its possible card misuse and perhaps fraud but am open to alternative theories.
I have an appointment with the CAB solicitor but I wonder if it more of a police matter.0
