Selling engagement ring

Just found out my ex was the biggest b***ard ever. The ring needs to be sold and the proceeds put towards something magnificent. Tips on how to get a good price and how I will ever trust a living soul again will be very much appreciated

Sorry I'm slightly raged:mad:

Before even trying to sell it, take it to a jewellers and get a valuation if you don't know what it is worth. They will be able to tell you the RRP value of it.

Once you know that, you should have an idea of how much you'd like to get for it whichever way you decide to sell it.
  • If the ring is gold, hang on to it ... we're in a pretty hard slump at the moment.

    What did he do?

I sold some gold a while ago (years) for my mum and got a really good price.

I also priced up some of my unwanted/broken gold but didn't get around to selling it.

The price offered now is nowhere near what I could have got, so I'm waiting for the price of gold to go back up.
If you're not desperate for the money, I suggest you do the same - regardless of what your ex has done.

If you're insistent on selling right now, do your research.

I tried to sell my engagement ring and wasn't able to (well I could, but for peanuts). People would only offer the gold value, completely ignoring the not-insignificant diamond.

Hope you find a good price for it, and hope you're feeling better soon.

RRP and valuations are usually way more what they will pay when buying off you. Perhaps try ebay instead as depending on the ring some pawn shops will only pay for the gold value which may be less than what a private buyer is willing to pay.

As a rule of thumb, it'll be worth 1/4 (or less) of what you paid for it.... so don't act in haste, stick it in your jewellery box and take your time to explore options to get the best price.

If you were never married and only engaged, the ring should be given back to him......

Ebay was the way forward for mine. Bought for around £1,800 (valued at approx £2,300). Sold for £623.

Tried several Hatton Garden jewellers but the best offer was £300. Best local was £350. Wasn't expecting offers that low.

Pretty poor form to sell it, should be given back to the person who gave it to you.
