If YOU have a Bus Pass

Hi all, it is TOTALLY beyond me why there is no standardization on the system used for using bus passes around the uk - for instance, down in cornwall, as Gers just stated, one has to state a destination, which
bears no consequence as to which button is pressed by the driver, and a scrap paper ticket issued, not showing a destination either, most of which end up on the floor, as all the old wrecks that First insist on keeping running down there do not have a ticket disposal bin provided.
The scanning area for the bus pass is a vertical surface, making it very easy to drop the pass, and very fiddly if it's in a pouch with other cards:
yet in Dorset, no-one is interested in knowing how far you go, the card is laid FLAT on the scanner, and goes "beep" if accepted, and NO scrap paper issued either - so no wastage, and much speedier ! Have a nice trip16 x Enhance 250w panels + SolarEdge Inverter + TREES0 -
Drek, same here in Hampshire, but it seems depending on bus co, 1st has vertical scanner, get paper ticket or drop pass etc, but our posh Star buses have bins for used tickets, and live BBC TV ticker news feed, which also says [speaks] what the next destination is, handy for those with less than perfect eye sight
Stagecoach have the flat scanner, beeps & goes green if OK, no ticket issued. They used to require destination given, but that seems to have ended nowEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
.......
My London pass is good all over England after 9:30 and in London 24 hours a day, Underground and rail too. Londoners over 60 get their own pass valid after 9:30.
........
The above is not accurate. The 60+ London Oyster Card is valid 24/7 for use within Greater London on public transport (i.e. Tube, buses, DLR and trams). It is also valid for use on National Rail Services within Greater London except on those trains it is not valid for use before 09:30 Monday - Friday.
It is not valid outside London. To use buses in England you need to wait until you reach the age for qualifying for the London Freedom Pass which currently mirrors the state retirement age for women.0 -
A bit fuzzy on definitions I think but basically OK - there are two passes Londoners can get. An over 60 one good in London only and an equivalent to the National Bus pass valid anywhere in England0
