I just get hedrin on prescription from the doctors for the kids, they don't pay for their prescriptions. I don't think anything else works, better get the proper stuff in the first place, and if you can get it free, all the better.0

How do you prove they have them? I have heard of this, and rang a local pharmacy. They hadn't heard of able to get it for free. Do you make an appointment or just ring and ask?“Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff.”0 -
You can get nitty gritty combs on prescription from the doctor
http://www.nittygritty.co.uk/site/howtogetaprescription.asp
If you don't want to do that use a 'detector' comb from boots rather than a 'nit comb' - they are better for getting them out. Comb with the flat side on the forward edge, and you can see the blighters.
You are not doing it often enough at once a week - so actually it's probably YOUR child people are waiting to leave the school rather than someone else's fault! You need to do it every other or third day - at least.
Wash (with tea tree flavour shampoo for preference) - condition - rinse - then comb out thoroughly.
Leave in spray - detangler/conditioner - sprayed on before school will help. If you can't get/can't afford/don't want to then a plant sprayer with geranium oil and tea tree oil added to the water will deter the blighters.
No chemicals are necessary.

It might well be mine, but I can assure you there are children in her class infested, and the whole family are. They have had them for literally years. I do know how dramatic that sounds but it's the truth.
Its been a problem in that class since reception, it's just our turn to get rid of them. I asked for advice as I knew there was something I was missing. I know that its a problem and that's why I am trying to sort it out.
The advice says 5-7 days for re treatment based on the life cycle so that's what I was working off. My ignorance obviously.“Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff.”0 -
I used to buy the cheapest conditioner possible and comb every 3 days...and every Friday night if not on the cycle;)
Apparently nitty gritty combs are excellent.
Not long until summer and you can have 6 glorious nit-free weeks;)
The life-cycle thing only works if you've ensured they aren't 'hopping on' during the day!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Thanks Valli.
I have a full on plan of attack now. I can't wait for the summer.“Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff.”0 -
My DS had them recently happily he has short blond hair, very easy to see them. I just used a nitty gritty comb and conditioner. I combed him twice a day (poor lamb he was sick of me!) for about 5 days then I wasn't finding anything at all, so did every other day. DD has longer curly hair so not as easily done, but needs must.
I now spray with home made detangler (tea tree oil, conditioner, water) every morning before school, DD has plaits into piggy tails and a squirt of cheap hairspray (with a warning not to take her "bobblys" out - she's only 3), I check them every weekend, and Wednesday nights are "nitty night" in our house where everybody gets a thorough combing.
I figure prevention in better than cure.
I did think if DD got them I might get the GHDs on her and fry the little barstewards :rotfl:
Good luck. Might buy some Aussie Miracle myself...Bossymoo

I rang and asked. The doctor wrote out a prescription, and i picked it up at the surgery. My older daughter also gets those tablets that stop her monthlies when she goes on holiday, just ring surgery and the receptionist tells the doctor, who works out how many tablets she will need and leaves a prescription..0 -
Thankyou so much for coming back. I will ring the docs in the morning.“Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what.
