Also how does a driver qualify for protected no claims? Or can any driver qualify for this?

How much typically is protected no claims cost extra?

I don't normally bother to protect mine. But having said that, last year I weakened, it cost me £4, on a premium of £110. Full no claims at whatever they decide the maximum for that company is. Waste of £4 though.

I dont normally protect mine either, But they gave it to me for free so silly to say no.

When you have 4 years or so then they will offer it to you. Each insurer will probably have their own figure though.

Will Vosa charge.. Quite possibly. Never been in that situation. But they may find more faults than the original garage.

For only £4 isn't it worth protecting just in case you have a crash and you lose your no claims bonus meaning car insurance will cost £thousands from scratch again?

Whenever I've had to make a claim, I have only lost 2 years no claims bonus. So if I had 5 years before, I would still have 3 years after one claim.

There will be an upper limit on the number of years that counts for that, usually 5.

Of course, the insurance companies never tell you how they calculate the premium. So even with a protected no claims bonus, if you make a claim, your premiums will go up next year.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Yeah but you don't have to continue with the same insurer and get a cheaper quote from a different insurer.

Another question is what if the driver was involved in a accident with another car but wasn't his/her fault. Will the no claims bonus be taken away regardless if it is the driver fault or not?

Only if the insurer couldn't recover its costs from a claim off the other party (its a no claims bonus, not a no fault bonus), ie if an uninsured driver hit you, or your car was vandalised etc.

Ok what you mean is when my insurer recover costs from the other insurer then my NCB is still intact right.
