I think the point is ... for the machine in question, and the OP's usage of it, then 1GB is adequate.

By all means go for 2GB, but not at 5x the price of 1GB!

    Edit: SNAP. :D

    2 x 512MB(1GB) £7.99, 1 x 1GB £14.99
That's a bizarre anomoly. I'd be surprised if you couldn't get that 1GB stick cheaper elsewhere; several years ago a got a new 1GB module for £18 (at a computer fair), and memory prices have collapsed since then. Don't know if it makes a difference, but that was desktop RAM and it wouldn't work with my existing 256MB module.

BTW What's the point of having me on ignore? I didn't even know of the sanction, so the only effect was missing out on my wit and wisdom.

    OK then, just my wit.

I tried to help you with a problem before. You were ungrateful and throughly unpleasant. You are on ignore lest I forget and think about helping you again.
    Now you know.

There you go with your bitterness and abuse again. :)

First of all, I asked you for any address to which I could send the Recovery Disc that you needed, as you did not have the option of downloading one.

Secondly, even if you were concerned about me trying to help you by sending you a Recovery disc at my expense, you revealed the contents of a Private Message.....which is against the rules of any forum.

So rather than reporting you, I'd rather not waste my time helping you again. For that reason you are on ignore.

I'm not concerned about reading your posts. It's just to remind me never to try to help you again.

As an aside, I have sent a few people recovery discs at my own expense. If you were concerned, I could have reassured you.
But instead you decided to reveal the contents of a Private Message.
Up to you, but I will never knowingly assist you again.

Now you go on and have a nice day.

PS. If I referred to someone as a rude pig, it's probably because they were. They disappeared that very day.

You didn't refer to her, you said it to her directly. A newbie too, I think. No wonder she disappeared!

Although I accept it's against the spirit of a forum, I've not seen that in this site's rules, so I have no reason to be grateful for not being reported. You, on the other hand,.......

She disappeared because she was PPR'sd. She abused a lot of other people.

Anyway....you don't have anything useful to contribute to this thread. So what are you doing here?
I'm not interested in helping you, nor to converse with you.

I only just got given the laptop, I've never had one before, this is a hand-me-down within the family. Initially I want to use it for vehicle diagnostices, for my car, to reset the airbag light etc, I have everything I need for this, I just need the software (which I have) to be loaded onto the laptop.

Afterwards I would want to use it to watch DVD films when I go on the ferry to France.
And I would later look into a wifi connection for internet at home so I can surf away from the desktop PC.

I don't play games on computer.

    Nifty,
When I install imgburn, I don't see a "toolbar" option to untick.? I do see a tick against "install icons" ...start menu, desktop, & quick launch icons
and another tick against "for all users"

    Kernal,
Perhaps Nifty gave me the price for 1GB RAM because I asked him to, and at £7.99 it doesn't matter if it later becomes redundant, cheap as chips LOL.

Perhaps they have removed the Toolbar and/or Addons from the installer. Which is a good thing.

Either Home or Pro is fine. It is whether is is an ACER that is important.

    General installation guide here

Do you have a Drivers disc? If not you should back up the Drivers, lest we can't can't find a link to them. Here is a link.

Do they have electrical sockets on the ferry? Can't imagine you'll have a battery life sufficient for watching films.
It's not a powerful laptop, so use a lightweight media player, such a Media Player Classic - Home Cinema to play your media.

Ok, that's great, thank you, I'll get on with this - which will probably take me about a week, and I'll update when I'm finished or stuck.

Yes, they have plugs on the ferry. Which reminds me I got to ask a question in the DIY board.. :)

Of course, if your PC has Windows 7/8, you don't need Imgburn at all, as they have their own Image Burner.
