Hi.

Trying to install a program on a laptop with Win XP

It says it cannot install as it requires .Net framework 2.0 SP1 or higher

It is not connected to the internet, I can download files onto a stick and bring them to the laptop.

What do I need to do?

    Hi

    This file is very strange,

I ran it from the desktop, and it gave no onscreen graphics, then an "extracting files pop-up slowly appeared and it continued to self extract to G: drive
Then it did nothing, no onscreen graphics, all the desktop icons dissappeared slowly in a falling horizontal screen wipe leaving just the wallpaper image that I have, The hard drive kept "moving" so I left it alone, then the screensaver came on, then the screen went blue with a windows XP logo in the middle. and it is just staying like that,

I don't know whether to turn it off and re boot or what?

The blue screen just dissappeared and is replaced by the desktop wallpaper image with no icons and the mouse pointer can be moved around the screen........the hard drive still occasionally flickering.

It appears to have extracted to Drive G: and there is a setup file.... that I will now run.

It must have crashed the computer when extracted.

I think this laptop is a bit dodgy, It's now stuck in the installation phase. Seems to be taking for ever, at least I have some onscreen graphocs this time, which albeit are not moving.

Ahhh it (the installation bar) is still moving slowly...

Jeez, after all that waiting, I got a "setup error" "setup is deleting all installed files"

I wonder if I should go for the .net2.0setup file instead ?? it might be smaller and simpler.

only 22 MB comapared to 200MB of the file 3.5version...above.

Ok, so maybe the laptop has to have XP SP2 to run these files?

How do I tell if this OS has had SP1, SP2, SP3 or no SP at all?

And would I need to install SP1 then SP2 then SP3
Or would a single install of SP3 be sufficient?

I certainly struggled to install .net updates on an XP machine without the latest SPs installed some years ago, and in the end I gave up and bought a new PC with Windows 7 as I couldn't get the latest SP to install properly.
