    This is quite true. Having thought about it, I don't think I often say 'sorry' about a faulty product - but customers don't go away thinking "She was rude/She didn't care". The majority of customers don't expect an apology - they know I, or the company, haven't made it faulty - but they do expect to know what's going to happen, as well as reassurance that it will be put right.


    You can show that you care, and sympathise, and so on without once uttering the word "sorry" - not that I am to avoid doing so, I apologise sometimes. But it's not the magic word that divides the good service from bad service.

    The way I deal with criticism - all depends on the type. Constructive criticism I really don't' mind; indeed I welcome it as that's the way you learn from a forum. The last few posts fall into this category and I've clicked on the "Thanks" button accordingly despite disagreeing with some of the points that they raised.     It's the other sort that gets me annoyed - the crass and inept ones. Yes, I probably don't deal with those in the way I should and I foolishly reply in a similar fashion. As I have said previously, instead of just ignoring them, I enter into this stupid childish, "tit for tat"', "let's score a political point" game with them and the more you reply the more it encourages them. My wife has also seen this sort of thing on other forums and made the comment that they must be retired and hence have a lot of time on their hands. I can imagine them trawling through forum posts just looking for opportunities to have a "dig" at somebody. Unfortunately, you then get tempted to reply in the same manner ... and so the vicious cycle begins.


    This will probably be my last post on this thread, (hooray, I hear you all say !), because, believe it or not, there is a life beyond this forum and I've got better things to do.


    Many thanks to the people that have contributed posts and expressed their thoughts and opinions in a mature and sensible fashion, even though I disagree with some, not all, of them.


    As for the rest..... enough has been said on that !


    To the people who have just been reading these posts, my advice is to not to fall into the trap, like I did, and get drawn into an immature "tit for tat" game with people that obviously just want to score a political point - rise above it.

    jclc your posting 'style' is very similar to what you are complaining about in the replies you've had. Pot and kettle? In fact reading back over this thread in my opinion it's actually you who have more seriously 'crossed the line'.
  • I can't believe how poor the service is from these people! My laptop expired so I went to purchase a new one. I explained that my previous machine was windows based and that I needed it for internet, photo's and correspondence. I'm pretty useless with technology and told the sales advisor I spoke to that I was. He showed me several and then also showed me chromebooks. As they were so much cheaper and not being a computer geek who needs lots of whistles and bells, I bought one. Got it home and set it up no problem. I then tried to link it to my printer! Oh! Can't be done. I'd paid extra for knowhow support so I called them. They told me that it was not possible to use my printer and I needed a cloud printer. When I asked the guy why the sales advisor had not mentioned that fact, he said "people don't print any more"! What? I then replied that I still felt the sales advisor should have pointed it out and told him that because of his attitude I would be purchasing a printer elsewhere, which I did. It wouldn't work. I called the helpline again and got through to someone else who said that it was virtually impossible to print with a chromebook and in fact he knew of only one printer which had successfully been linked with one! PC world then told me that I should have specifically asked whether it would work with my printer. Maybe justifiable if I'd portrayed myself as knowing what I was doing. Maybe justifiable if the chromebook worked with the majority of printers but sadly not mine. But when their own helpline team tell me that they know of only one printer which will work, then that is surely something which they should point out. Initially, I would have been perfectly happy with a good attitude and a gesture of a few quid off a new printer. Another sale and a happy customer. Oh no. not likely. Terrible attitude from customer service. A promise of a call back specifically at 12:30 from the store manager didn't happen. I'm in the small claims court on 16th September trying to get them to admit that they should really have given me more information on something so basic. If a motor dealer sold a car and the customer found that the boot was for show only and could not be used for luggage, I think the dealer would be in trouble for not pointing that out. Or should be anyway. That's my argument with these people. The sale of goods act states that a product should be able to perform ALL the tasks commonly performed by that type of equipment. Printing is commonly done and to my mind the fact that it only works with one printer means that it doesn't perform all the tasks required. I had a letter today offering me £50. If that had happened in the beginning I would have been delighted and on this forum saying how great they were. They really are stupid and have a terrible attitude to customer service. Too powerful in the marketplace.

    Tigerssteve will lose. I think Tigerssteve is one of those people that think the law works in a way that if you don't like the way something has happened it must be against he law. Tigerssteve I'll put my money on is going to learn the law quite simply doesn't work this way.

    Unless there's some major information missing I'd say the chance Tigerssteve will lose is 90+%.
