I've bought 2500 litres of oil over the last year.

    c£900 = 75/month oil cost?

That seems pretty excessive when we don't have the heating on for 6 months of the year. But it does the hot water...

    :eek::eek::eek:

Yikes! - in our new place, this is the first time either of us have had oil to run the hot water & heat - we put about 500L in last month at about £300 so seems in keeping with what you've paid. Then again we've not had heating on at all yet - only the hot water - so I'm guessing 500L should last 4 months on average?

We've got a fireplace but not used it at all yet - guess we'll be sourcing free wood as well - I've been eyeing up the stockpiles in the barn across the road - wonder if the farm might sell us some? (cheap) - we only plan to use it on weekends and holidays not day to day...

Can I be cheeky and ask what you pay for electric? - Our old place everything was run on electric & winter was  when we turned the heaters on!

We've not budgeted any differently for utilites than the old place but maybe it should get a little bit of attention so there are no surprises?

    ...and how's today's list going?...

Hey there RT good luck with the firewood.

I use boilerjuice for oil and can get a £5 off for both orders if anyone wants me to refer them :) RT our oil lasts 2-3 months in winter, and 4-5ish in summer so we've bought oil late OCT, early JAN, MAR and now in late July (but only as there was an offer we had around 140l left of the last 500)

Electric here has settled at about £100/month which is just usage and the wee cooker when we run it.

I've just set up a DD for oil for £50/month, added to my £50 credit.

We've talked quite seriously about installing an electric shower, next time we have some free money we'll probably do that.

Todays list was interupted by friends unexpectedly whisking me off for lunch :)

    Must think about that soon!!

I did check the banks and put the washing out though.

And do a few chores like - erm - walking around the garden.

    :)

Chooks are out and dangerous. More on the book of face.

oh joy - well at least we had today.

Cleaned my fridge only took 15 mins.

Tomorrows mission is to take everything that shouldn't be in the kitchen out in 15 mins. eg not kill yourself but just do what you can do in 15 mins.

I have to say, whilst I'm carp at this kind of stuff, the place is looking a bit straighter.

I know I might not keep it up but its nice to know that 15 mins can make such a difference.

ETA NSD and a NDD snagged. :)

    Mornin' all!

It's work at home day today - that's actually work I've brought home and not stuff that needs doing in the house IYSWIM...

Misty like the scottish moors here today - it's drizzling so any laundry that may (or maynot) get done will have to dry inside!

Thanks for all the info Pips! - I'll take notes and discuss with OH...
I think our electric here was 20 the first month and 80 the second but then again we've been doing 95% of our cooking on the BBQ in 'true north' style.

Across the pond we bbq even in blizzards making sure to have a toque and gloves on! (really we do - it's not even a joke:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:) Gas for the BBQ was about 40 and at last look was still quite full! We've tried grilling every veggie going - most work well - but pak choi was NOT a hit!

I have only one (slightly esoteric) goal today...silence! - can I make it through the day in my own company without any music in the background?!? I'm wondering about the supposed benefits of living in a rural location & thought I'd give 'the sound of nature' a try! Wish me luck - city girl me:o:o:o

    ...confession...

    ...my sink is shiny...

...found some shiny sink stuff - think we inherited it from someone...

    ...is it life-changing?...

    ...um...

    ...no...

...is it nice to have a sink that no longer is stained?...

    ...yes...

...will it become a regular habit?...

    ...probably not...

...clean & tidy is good enough...

  • Oh RT you sink shiner you. :D I'm still fighting against my innate butterfly brain and scruffy nature. But as DH has told me the phyicist in him always relates me back to the second law of thermal dynamics.

Entropy is the natural state of the universe. Or sommat like that.

Enjoy the chaos and embrace it. Its kinda organic.

Wiks mum bbq'd everything all summer, the sign of a good gardener and general outdoors person I think - love grilled veggies, I'll avoid the pak choi good tip!!
The days of Friday/Sat seem to have evaporated.

Worked friday then roadied for my rock star husband. And got to be film engineer and sound crew too.

Rock and roll I have to say is mainly about twiddling things, setting up infinite amounts of spaghetti and then taking them all down.

Afterwards it seems that the post-match-analysis stage is infinite.

Well you see there's a lot of video footage to watch and rewatch.

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    :D

So yesterday was spent doing a bit of that and some shopping £6 in Mr T and £20 in Mr A and some bargains (dug fud) but that's about it.

Had a lovely walk in the sunshine at the beach. Lots of surfers out, seems the windy weather has some benefits.

Today is a get sorted, quieter kind of a day.

BBQ in the village later. As there are only 27 houses here, I'm sure its not going to be too large or rowdy.

Unless they invite himself to play of course.

Checked banks £30 in one £80 in the other £400 in kids uni accounts.

Need to do a timesheet for tomorrow to hand in another 25 hours garden work.

Womble hours done for this week. (7)

So a nice 32 hour week.

Started the outline of a book, kinda fell out of my head. But, its a short story aimed at kids so nonsense is perfectly acceptable.

Must do more decluttering today for a bit.

Haven't looked at flylady for three days, shhh don't say.

But, needless to say, as Sunday is 'renew your spirit day' I get to just have fun!

    YAY.

Next week we're in the bathroom and one cluttered room for our missions. I guess that means DS's room.

    Oooh, a book you say Pippi? :j :j Sounds grand :D I'd love to know a famous author :D :j :j

Might join you with flyladying after today... Of course lots of things in boxes here but it would seem less overwelming if the sink wasn't also full of dishes and I'd done the holiday washing! Packing is one thing - being plain old filthy and untidy scruffpots is quite another :o :rotfl:
  • Hugs my lovely - hope you're good.

As for famous, hmm, infamous maybe :)

    Goodluck with that.

Himself is sorting the 'music room' to get the stuff in after a gig, I dunno how you do this on a weekly basis!
