Asda cash back taken without consent

Hi guys i really would be grateful for some advice. I visited Asda nearly three weeks ago. i had 10.00 cash back added to my shopping which i didnt sign for, didnt receive, and i have been in store to complain and seen the cctv footage for my own eyes showing the tray pop open and the guy closes it and i walk off having not had his hands go any where near the money tray. during my check out the guy ducked down and was doodling on my car park ticket (which atthe time i thought odd,and later realised it made him appear to the camera that he was writting on my receipt) The manager was USELESS ! she had already has from tuesday until the saturday when i went in to view the footage and hadnt bothered ! After keeping me standing in the doorway of the security office (directly infront of the mens toilet door for half and hour) she was aburpt and rude! he security guy said he would burn the footage off, I was given my ten pounds back (fair play) but I was treated with the attiyude that i had my money and run along! I have seen with my own eyes that he did it on purpose, and i asked to be kept in the loop, as I wanted proof that Asda were doing something about it - I was told "Our internal procedures dont involve you". I demanded that she use the number given to keep me informed. Its now over two weeks since the event happened, and I haven't even received a letter of apology from Asda! Its terrible customer service, and they (in my eyes) aren't making a thing about their staff stealing money so they don't look bad !! Where do i stand guys please? Surely i have rights to know he has been stopped doing this to any one else? And do you think I deserve my apology ?
Sorry for the long post !

While their attitude may have been poor, they are correct in that it's an internal matter how they deal with the member of staff concerned.
Have you seen the checkout operator concerned in the store since?0 -
You got your £10 back so I don't really see the problem. They are correct that internal policy do not involve you. If they choose not to tell you how they proceed then that's their prerogative. I would imagine if you want it taken further then you would probably have to report it to the police.
Why do you need an apology? Its just a word, it really doesn't matter. You're not out of pocket so just move on with your life and forget it! Don't shop there any more if it bothers you that much.0 -

They are quite right when they say "Our internal procedures dont involve you".
You have no right to any information about how they manage their employment discipline.
There is no consumer rights issue here.0 -
I refuse to go into their store until i receive an apology, so no i havent seen him in there. I think i need to speak with head office to check it was taken further ?0

i think if someone stole money from you you would like an apology , no ?0

I couldn't care less about an empty word as long as I got my money back, so no!!nicolabloyce wrote: »i think if someone stole money from you you would like an apology , no ?
Seriously, haven't you got more important things in life to do rather than worrying yourself about something like this? Forget about it, be wary next time and enjoy your life.0 -
That's Asda for you. I would say that's at least attempted theft by the check out person and report it to the police, saying you want it investigated. It sounds to me like he deliberately didn't give you the money and tried to cover it up by appearing to sign your receipt, i.e. for the cameras, so he could later retrieve your money for himself.
Once the police are involved, I would think you would get quite a different reaction from Asda. How about, if the guy is still working there, taking a cell phone picture of him and tell him it's for a police report about his attempted theft, and then passing the picture onto the police?0 -
Ah yes... you do have the right as a consumer never to enter their store again.nicolabloyce wrote: »I refuse to go into their store until i receive an apology, so no i havent seen him in there.
Sorry, I overlooked that right when replying earlier.
Every employee has the right to expect his employer to keep such information private, and the Data Protection Act probably ensures they do so.nicolabloyce wrote: »I think i need to speak with head office to check it was taken further ?
I think you are wasting your time.0 -

Please do not waste police time with this. There is no proof of a theft, or even an attempted theft. The police cannot handle the volume of real crimes reported to them, let alone dealing with trivial matters such as this.0 -
Two things, one their employment record has nothing to do with you and legally they won't be able to discuss any outcomes of disciplinary action.
Two, there is nothing more you can do. You have your money back so you have no financial loss. There is no theft as far as your concerned, the police won't be interested.
However if he did steal it, then it's ASDA who have suffered the loss to police will only be interested in hearing from them. Which they probably won't bother unless it's been ongoing.0
