What's the worst till error you've ever seen?

I charged someone £50 for a DVD once, it had gone through the till as a ring which we don't even sell.
Someone from price control had to try and find which DVD it was though as the customer didn't bring the DVD back with them when they came back later on.0 -
In the early 1980's I was a student at a Scottish University where the staff were very proud of the computer system at the University library.
One night there was a terrible storm and the building was struck by lightning, shorting out the electricity supply and bringing the computer system to a grinding halt.
3 days later I received a letter from the library. Assuming that it was asking me to collect a textbook I'd reserved a few days previously, I tossed the letter unopened into my bag and only opened it whilst I was queuing up to collect my book.
Imagine my surprise to discover that it was notification of a fine for a book I had returned a couple of days late the previous term. The letter warned that no more books could be borrowed until I had settled the fine in full by cash at the earliest available opportunity.
The fine was £64,000.0 -
The woodchip one on that BBC article, haha! A few months ago OH and I were shopping and got a joint of pork reduced to something like £2.90, bargain. We went to the self-service till, and it wouldn't scan the sticker, so I entered the number manually, it came up with the right product, but a charge of something random in the figure of £2k, the assistant couldn't understand how I'd done it, it got her a bit flustered to say the least!0

I think the worst I've had was a Belkin phone case scanning at 1p in Tesco - that night me and a few friends waited until later and toured all of the stores in the area, buying all of the stock. We ended up with over 100, and sold them on eBay.0

I bought a few birthday cards in a small card shop We were chatting at the till as she rung up my stuff. It came to over £40000. I told her I didn't have that in my purse.0

I think that there must have been an error every time I get my bill in the supermarket. Sadly I have just spent too much
On the plus side, when Waitrose reduce an item for quick sale it doesn't cancel out any multibuy offers. Last week I bought 3 packs of meat reduced to 1.79 each from 4.19. Part of '3 for £10' offer so I got a further £2.57 off. £12.57 worth of meat for £2.80! Result :beer:0 -

There's a lot of 0s on the reduced items, it's easy to miss 1 or 2 out or add them! If you miss one out, the item is 10 times higher in price and so on if you miss out more.
Once I was working on checkouts and that happened, it was like £1500 for some reduced cakes or something lol.0 -
Not quite a till problem, but a sales assistant problem. I once went to a large outdoor equipment suppliers to buy some fishing gear. They rang it all up and said £93 ish, I then handed over a voucher for 15% off, she rang it in and said £117 please. I then said but it was only £93 before the discount - to which she replied "yeah, but not everything you bought could be discounted" took me a good 10 minutes to get her to understand that even if only one of the items could be discounted it still can't be more than the original price!0

many years ago, i was paying for my lunch in boots with ad card points. i knew i had enough and how much it would cost, the woman on the till informed me i did not have enough points - turned out one of the food items had scanned through the till as a £25 face cream. she cancelled it and rang it through again still £25 face cream. i am glad i did not have no have enough points as i would have used them without question, not even asking how much, as i had a fixed idea of the points on the card and the cost of the meal deal.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0
