What's the worst till error you've ever seen?

Yesterday I was in Starbucks (stop spluttering MoneySavers; it was the cheapest way to get some wi-fi access).

I bought an iced latte for £2.25 (which was thoroughly mediocre but that's not the point) and handed over 25p in silver and a £20 note. Dunno what the lad did to the till but it instructed him to give me £40,597 change. For some reason he wouldn't hand it over.
I need to think of something new here...

We had a bill for over £1 million in Poundland once.

The wife is inclined to get a bit carried away in these shops but that's taking the mick.

DS1 wanted a dart board and cabinet for sale outside the Help the Aged charity shop. I didnt have enough cash so asked if I could pay by card. The assistant tried to put £4999 through instead of £4.99. I kept the receipt in my purse for ages!

Years ago bought £4 odd's worth of food in my local co-op & paid on debit card.

The young lass put it through as £40 odd on the card machine.

The thing that was shocking me was she said "I can't get away with that much" & called over a supervisor.

Made me wonder how many people had been over charged a few quid by her

Once had a mis-scanned item in Lidls. A 99p bottle of squash appeared as a £6.95 bottle of perfume.

I once authorised a debit card payment of £1,000 for a £100 hotel room. Spotted the error too late and the refund took three days to get put back into my account. Rather spoilt my few days holiday as we didn't have any money left in account to spend....! Everyone, check the amount you are authorising carefully before you press the enter key!

No doubt she means cancelling the sale, or overriding the price. I worked in a shop and I could cancel items if something had scanned twice (easily done on the style of till) or override/refund small items, but anything more would flag up on the system.

I'm sure she wasnt going to overcharge you, as what good would that do on a debit card machine? Its not going to line her pockets as it goes straight to Co ops bank...

The deli scales at a shop I used to work in used to have a sticky 2 button, resulting in people getting charged for 22 of an item, or £22.xx a kilo for things. I rang a small shop (probably about 3-4 carrier bags) through for someone one day, asked for the amount and as I heard the words pass my lips, thought "that's not right". Yep, 22 cooked chickens taking the total up to about £80.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

The CC machines was separate to the till & it was just on that machine the error was on.
I don't think she was going to take it herself, I got the impression that was that she was new and had made mistakes before.
