Volvos since the beginning of time
I didn't realise that some folks counted 3rd of September 1967 as 'the beginning of time'. LOL
That would make this year 46 eh.
But don't forget that the Swedes started using headlights all the time because they stiched to the right (correct) side of the road - having driven on the left side, but with left-hand drive vehicles.
Anyhow all that's history -
My auto headlights, far from needing to be overridden because they come on when they are not required, tend to not come on as often as I would like.
There are still those who flash their lights when they meet a car with headlights or DRLs.
Can they really be so unaware that they know nothing about the fitting of DRLs to all new cars?
That would mean that they think that half the drivers in the country have 'forgotten' to switch their lights off - either that or they think those with lights on are stupid.0 -
I have just see a woman in a 4 x 4 driving along a C class road with full headlights on in bright sunshine.
Why would she be doing this?
Is it she thinks she is important and wants everyone else out of her way?
Or as it's in Suffolk another case of 'NFS'?
Actually there is strong evidence (though I can't find the link) that having your lights on makes other road users spot you sooner even in daylight. It's quite common on the continent and in some countries like Sweden it's actually required by law.0 -
My driving instructor taught me to put headlights when driving with the sun behind you, as it makes you easier to see for vehicles travelling in the opposite direction.
And you know what? He's right(try it next time you're driving towards the glaring sun; look at how much easier it is to see cars with their lights on)
What will your verse be?

I agree that the DRLs are generally a good idea, espesh those who choose not to put lights on in heavy rain, but why are they only on the front of cars? why not rear lights too?0 -

On cars I disagree, I ride a motorbike with headlights on all the time, I don't get a choice to turn them off. This was done to make motorbikes, inherently more difficult to see, stand out from all the cars. Now a lot of cars are using DRLs guess what, motorbikes don't stand out as well, and, I guess this works for bicycles as well.
Would love to see the accident stats in a couple of years, I am expecting a rise in SMIDSY for bikes0 -

That's so the Nun with the basket of Kittens can see you and dodge out of your way.
Unless you are reversing at high speed then she'll be dead...0 -
DRLs are just grown up & posh W*nker lights
Hmmm, the site is censoring out the expletive on the link itself. Oh well.the stupid little, often neon blue LED lights that a boy racer will have on the bonnet of their (badly) souped up Astra/Polo/other random car your Gran wouldnt be seen dead driving. Users of these w*nker lights are often 17-24 year old burberry wearing idiots who hang around schools and colleges after final bell, honking any fit girl who walks past.0 -

Yes, but not full beams though. Full beam headlights are quite dazzling to oncoming traffic because they are not aimed down and to the nearside like dipped beams are.
I think a lot of commenters on here have missed the fact that the OP said the oncoming driver had full beams on, not just lights, not sidelights, not DRLs, but full beams.
Quite annoying when people coming towards you do that, even in daylight. I was approaching a car which was parked on the opposite side of the road to me with it's full beams on, and although I repeatedly flashed my lights to alert the driver (who was sat in the car) he paid no attention and dazzled all the drivers in cars behind me, as well.0 -
Buellguy, I thought the idea of permanently-on headlamps on motorcycles was to make them stand out from the background a little better, not to distinguish them from cars. But I do keep seeing motorcycles around here without headlamps on, which I thought was mandatory.
I know nothing about motorcycles myself, never been something I was into, but I guess your forum name is based on your bike make? If so, my mate has one of those too.0
