I withdrew my daughter from RE at GCSE level (school said it was one of the 'compulsory' ones ) as she, and I, preferred that she spend the extra time concentrating her her other subjects.
It wasn't easy, I sent in a letter which led to several 'interesting' chats with the Deputy Head. (You would not believe some of the things I was told! It was a good job I had done my homework beforehand)
Eventually they capitulated, and DD went either to the Library or to another study area instead, but the teacher told the other children in the class that we had withdrawn her due to our "strong religious beliefs" :mad:2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

The National Curriculum clearly states that RE is to represent the Christian faith as a majority religion, and other principle religions. Therefore Vicars go to non-church schools, as part of this.
The other principle religions are taught via their various celebrations through the year, and in specific RE lessons. The Christian faith, as the majority religion and as instructed by the NC, is sprinkled through daily life in school."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." Actually, the GCSE course was the only time throughout my compulsory education that I enjoyed RE. We had a fantastic teacher who led the class in debates and discussions about issues like euthanasia, abortion, the death penalty, divorce etc. It was more like an intro to ethics and philosophy that what I would have expected from RE.0 -

I seem to remember finishing off assemblies when in secondary school with the Lord's Prayer .....I still make OH smile as I insist on using words such as thy when I say it now.
tbh I don't understand all the fuss - its almost like society has got a 'oh I like that bit of religious custom' attitude about it and that,in my eyes makes it all a little hypocritical
It's ridiculous,isn't it.
Why all the hatred these days and thinking everything is a ploy?
We are in a Christian country. It is part of our culture.

As I say, the majority of the 3 year olds aren't fluent in welsh yet. They wouldn't know what they were agreeing to!!
Your child will have the opportunity to visit a mosque in KS1 and probably other places of worship too!
As you are clearly very anti -religion, how will your child gain any experience in this in order to draw their own conclusions, if you withdraw them from all RE at school?"On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." Re-read my posts please.
I'm not against RE, when it is taught as "some people believe this, others believe that". It encourages critical thinking and understanding of others' beliefs. I attended a church school and this is exactly how RE was taught. As a result I realised I didn't believe any of them!
What I am against is the insistence that children say prayers to 1 deity as if its a fact they exist, especially when they are too young to be able to question it. It isn't, and should not be allowed. It is not the state's place to do that.
DD won't be removed from RE. She will be removed from anything involving any religion being taught as fact.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
