You can't croak before you've written your book.

Hahahaha! I can't, whitewing! I really should do it, it might help someone one day. The thing is telling me to just write and not look at grammar or spelling or worry about how it gels together is an almost impossible task. I edit every post here not to delete anything but because I don't like how it flows or I spot a typo. I am not sure my OCD allows for stream of conciousness!

As much as I am glad that I studied I wouldn't do it again as it was agony! I would rewrite everything until it reached my standard of perfection which is up in the clouds somewhere. I am way too self-critical and too much of a perfectionist to actually enjoy writing in any great length one typo to me and everything is ruined.

  • Hahahahaha! that is a lot of posts! I can't believe a thread I started because I was lonely turned into this! It is all the wonderful people here that have made it into such a helpful and inspiring thread, thank you so much to everyone for the care, support and sharing. I would miss everyone so much now if the thread was ever deleted.

Thread would more likely get locked than deleted. Anyway, we would just haunt you on another thread.

    Here's one for your partner:

Croatian Ante Djindjic, 29, will be hoping lightening does not strike in the same place twice. He was knocked unconscious when lightning struck his penis during a roadside toilet break. Djindjic said: "Doctors said the lightning went through my body and because I was wearing rubber boots it earthed itself through my penis."

WaS - given that you have written about various parts of your life if someone at some point was to piece it together into some kind of cohesive order - would that make a starting point?

I do appreciate there is way more to your life than what you could ever share on a forum and someone else would not do it how you would but thought I would share what I was thinking as I start to head off on some tangent? :o:)
  • Hahahaha I just read that to him, whitewing and he clutched his man bits and pulled a face!

I live in hope of someone doing something like that for me, oldestgnome! I have thought of pasting my posts from here to my teacher friend and asking him to do something with them. It is far easier for me to post here than sit down with a blank page and think I am writing a book. The mere thought is scary!

What about talking and recording your streams of consciousness and getting someone to transcribe and edit them? Or would the technology get in the way?
Personally I can't listen to my own voice as it's like listening to a complete stranger. I don't like how I sound when I listen to me. We did some camcording at work for one of the people to take with him to a new home, and I was cringing every time I appeared on it.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • It's worth a thought, elsien. I have never recorded myself before so it could either be fine or I will irrationally panic because its technology. It might work if I then posted the recorder to him, putting it online for him to upload would cause panic but for some reason posting doesn't.

He already has my diaries which I kept from 13 to 16, they had a lot of entries about what I was going through. He turned them all into something impressively readable and we were already at 70,000 words so really the book would be a combination of memories, how things were before and after the diary years and the actual diaries themselves which recorded day to day life in quite a lot of detail.
