WaS, this is going to sound really dreadful, but, to save you getting up at night, would one of these be any good?.....

  • Good idea, Pyxis. I think I am going to order some. Practicality is more important than anything else at these times, I am sleeping on a plastic bin bag so glamour hardly comes into it even now! It also might mean poor WaSp doesn't feel the need to sleep in his chair for 3 days, he really can't cope with anything getting on him. (Although I do giggle when it happens because you would think that he has caught plague).

Right what the letter does is prove I made the right choice, no way would they allow the flexibility I need.
  • It doesn't sound like they would, melly. You did the right thing for you. There was no way that you could continue as you were, you would have burnt out.

I am pretty burnt out now.
I need to wait a few days before I contact them so I don't write an angry letter.

melly, please try not to worry about the letter or take it personally. Companies have to cover themselves these days, they would have put in it about giving you leave so you don't turn round and take them to a tribunal for not being sympathetic to your needs (i am not saying you would do this but they have to be cover themselves)

Regarding owing money sit down and work it out, also calculate any holiday pay you may owe. In simple terms if you have 20 days holiday per year and took 15 days but left after 6 months you would owe them 5 days pay for holidays taken.

Hugs for you and Dogdog, LIR. Will you please let us know how the vets goes? Take it easy and don't tire yourself, I am thinking of you both.

I have reverted to feeling really ok.

Looks like might be a trapped nerve?

I have suitable pills left over from big dog to try for a while then stop and see.

The vet we saw today was about twelve, I feel ancient. Sensible vet nurse was there and gave me a hug and asked how we were doing in a house that must seem much roomier without big dog. and said a not sensible thing ( 'you need another dog for him' pointing at kiwi...:D.. Idea being that dog dog is getting to old to hooligan about with him as she did. I am quite happy with two thank you very much. ( and have been fighting collecting want for ages) but now for is saying maybe we should get a nother young'un and let the two young 'uns romp and dog dog should be encouraged to take it easier.

Well, you know, LIR, you can only do what is right for you at any one time.
You will know deep down if the time is right for another dog.

I got my second dog when my first was 11. I am convinced that second dog kept first dog young. When second dog was 11, I was ready for another dog, so as to have two again, but almost immediately she developed a serious condition that meant I had to devote a lot of time and effort to her, and I didn't think I'd have the energy for another, and frankly, didn't want to divide my time.

The two situations were completely different and I know I did the right thing in each situation, even though It was a real shame not having another dog in the house when second dog died, though. It really, really helped me to have second dog there when first dog died.

We have two! I like two, we can easily go out with two. I've almost never only had two. My mother always had a pack of huge dogs, I like that our two are one each and though dog dog is big ( as tall as a giant breed ) she doesn't command the same public reaction, so we can just take them out. Its really novel. I've barely been without them since we were a two dog family. :).

She's not ancient, she's eight. And zippy. But she doesn't go all day like the kiwi, and it think that's ok, because we get different time with them.

I know what vet nurse meant, but......I just dunno. If we had an ancient dog and him maybe I'd be more excited.

Otoh, she LOVED having him as a puppy. Maybe she'd enjoy having another puppy too. Hmm.

( kiwi is almost two and a half)
