Assuming you don't need them, could you make her string of pearls into a more contemporary, funky decoration or piece of jewellery for her? Maybe sew them onto a bag as decoration? Or make them into a star for a modern Christmas decoration. That way she still gets the pleasure of her cousin's gift without feeling frumpy. Or incorporate them into a hanging mobile or classy windchime (I'm not sure if they would get ruined if hung outside though).:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. She loves compliments on her appearance, she has always made a huge effort in that regard and wears things that someone 50 years younger would wear. She is the only person I know of her age that still has shoulder length, layered hair and a fringe! Very few people realise how old she really is. She believes that's why she has lived so long, she simply refuses to acknowledge her age.
I was eavesdropping on the bus the other day and the general consensus these days is that anyone can wear whatever they like as long as it actually suits them as an individual.
PS. does she ever wear slides in her hair? Anything you could decorate for her head?
I can still remember when old people used to dress old. There are still materials and designs that I can't stand because I associate them with stuffy, old, unkind attitudes.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. I do like the idea of fibre optic stuff. Here's a light (have never used this company, it was just the first hit) http://www.valuelights.co.uk/colour-changing-fibre-optic-silver-lamp.html?gclid=Cj0KEQiAneujBRDcvL6f5uybhdABEiQA_ojMgqrdrlbplkvJaGl7g8itBXuBYSG04rdD-gJuTEuFLBYaArJX8P8HAQ
The whole site is probably worth exploring.
Also, I wonder about a very soft jumper. I have fallen in love with some of the new 'wools' which are around - the jumpers are sooooooo soft! For example, jumpers knitted with 'eyelash' wool like this http://www.clothingattesco.com/knitwear/f+f-eyelash-knit-cropped-jumper/invt/bm422246
(Not my favourite colour, but the only really bright one I could find. But the white ones are also lovely as they look snowflaky. There is also http://www.clothingattesco.com/knitwear/f+f-leopard-print-eyelash-knit-jumper/invt/bm421339 which I personally dislike, but I see people wearing leopard prints who look great)

That's a great idea about the pearls, I have never worn them myself. Turning them into a decoration could really work!
She does wear hair slides and also pony tails so something involving those is a possibility, too.
Thank you for the sites, JM! They look very good! She does wear jumpers, pretty, modern ones. I am thinking that perhaps I could put together a whole outfit?
All of her life she has always kept up with changing times. WaSp can remember being dragged on peace marches in the 60's while his mum had bare feet, long hair and bright flowery clothes. Until her eyesight and hearing failed she was regularly using a laptop and shopping online for her clothes, she showed BIL how to do it! She reacts very badly to anything bought for her which could be seen as age appropriate, sometimes to her children's embarrassment. The eyelash knit funnel neck jumper could look good with jeans depending on MIL's figure, and it's only £8 at the moment.

I like that! I think I will buy that, too. She is a size 10 so she can wear most things. I am thinking more and more of putting together a whole outfit, complete with accessories.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

I am getting ridiculously excited about this.
May I propose a new username for MIL to go with her new outfit. How about millefleur (unless pyxis or anyone can think of a better one).

That is perfect for her! She shall be milliefleur from now on. She would absolutely love that, too. I do love how she has become part of the thread, I have to tell her because she would be overjoyed!Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

Glamourpuss socks?

(Don't buy just yet in case anyone comes up with others that would be better).
ETA: I like these too but these are too pricey for me to buy:

Hahahaha! They are wonderful! I shall wait but they are very tempting. She tends to wear either trainers or sandals and not old fashioned ones, usually strappy ones. She can't have much of a heel now because she is unsteady on her feet but hopefully I can find something pretty and comfortable.
Also jeans need to be of a certain type. She is only little and slim so anything loose swamps her, I am wondering if skinny jeans would be a step too far?
WaSp just got up and is utterly confused by my sudden declaration that we are buying milliefleur an outfit. He has already said that he will be no help there and doesn't even want to try. I told him it is fine because we already have it in hand!Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France
