Codemonkey, I've been attempting to list the benefits of doing that course now:-
1) your firm has finally offered you a course!
2) you will have some time away from the boredom of having nothing to do at work!
3) you will have something to get your teeth into!
4) you've been there before, so it's not completely uncharted territory.
5) you'll have all your meals cooked for you, your bed made, taxis to the venue! Enjoy! Enjoy!
6)if your room has a bath, you can have long, interrupted soaks!
7) you can watch whatever you want on the Teev.
8) you can read, do crosswords, anything you want! That goes for the journey down, too! Catchup time! Let the train take the strain!
9) you'll have something to talk to the others about when you get back to work.
With regard to the lunchtimes, if you do find the others don't join you in the canteen, go and sit by someone on their own and strike up a conversation. If it comes to nought, it doesn't matter!
This time, there may well be someone else from another part of the country on the course. Make a point of finding out at the beginning if that is the case, initiate some chat.
Above all, treat it as a little holiday, with time just for you, and you can be as selfish as you like!(I just lurve spiders!)

Yes, if you go definitely buy some lovely bath stuff and body creme and treat the week as a pamper week. Return to your DH all soft and scented and full of fondness the absence made stronger. Eat 'temple food' and and feel healthy.
Fir and I spend five days apart every week, and its not always easy, but it IS doable. Sometimes even healthy.0 -
Gosh yes, I love being by myself in an hotel! But then, I'm weird - I am perfectly happy sitting up in bed at home (real home, not camping out home where we are ATM) watching the telly for hours on end, if I have a day off. I sometimes think I'd be happy in prison, if I could do that - although of course I would miss Mr JM. (Just reflecting on prison existence, not feeling that I deserve to go to prison for anything!)
Where we are staying there isn't a TV in the bedroom, and no ariel to install one. So I have bought a WHOLE SET of House, the medical drama, and once it arrives* will be watching that on an ageing laptop in bed.
*I'm rather hoping I might arrive back tonight to find it has come in the post. It is due any day!
WaS - BIL is a really nasty piece of work, isn't he! Don't let it get to you - although I can see it must be very upsetting that he upsets MIL and, by extension, WaSpEx board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -

I love the idea of a hotel room this evening. ATM I feel like nothing but a climbing frame for cats.
. I love them but its getting rather tiresome.

CodeM, Husband and I often put Skype on when he is away and chat and watch each other pottering about, it keeps us both company. The dogs get a bit confused hearing his voice, they don't seem to see hin on the screen.
WaS I just want to say rude things about BIL, he is totally in the wrong. All I can suggest is you put a mental block up against him as much as possible and try and enjoy your relationship with MIL as much as possible. You can still write/phone/visit . He's not going to go away and MIL needs him for when WaSP isn't around, it's a shame he upsets her so much though. Not easyDecluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -
Saw this on another thread. No idea if it'd help or not, but if anyone wants to give it a try and report back.

WaS, there is little point in getting yourself upset over BIL. He is behaving like a pillock but there is nothing you can do about it, save soothe MIL's ruffled feathers.
I am going to watch the Broadmoor programme in a few minutes, but I don't expect it to be cheerful!
I have some work to do tonight to meet a deadline. Rather than get it out of the way like a mature adult, I am sulking and resentful about it. But I have to do it today.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
