Hahahahahaha! I am now imagining sloth's on the beach, laying on sun loungers with sunglasses on and drinking cocktails...

Perfect, Codemonkey! Just what I was thinking! I really do love sloth's so much, how can you not love those little faces?!

    I've been Money Tipped!
busy and professional lifestyle for herself but sometimes it gets too much.
    ..

Some time earlier this year there was a radio four show about people who were successful professionals despite mental health problems.

Now, I cannot remember who they were or what was wrong, I think the man featured ( who may or may not have run a contract cleaning company..., or been something in IT :o) had depression, and there was a woman who had a public law case about her dismissal ....which I think she lost because she had not declared her health problem when hired before a law changed).

Anyway. I'm sorry this is useless info because no one can find the programme because I cannot remember any names or anything.

Not a sloth but seemed appropriate.

Aw, I love alpaca's, too! And llamas! I am always first at the children's petting zoo's fussing over them while WaSp pretends that he has never saw me before in his life.

That's really interesting, LIR. It is a concern my friend has because she has never declared her mental illness. Right now she is working part-time, finishing her phd and has just begun a second degree. She keeps her life very full because it gives her less time to think but at the same time she does put her health at risk. She is very like me in that way-when I was managing the residential home, doing my phd and working as a HIV/AIDS counsellor all at once. I had the same attitude of keeping busy and not looking back but it wasn't sustainable. I do fear that she might end up in the same situation, she is suffering very much right now.

I think their 'smile' tops the dolphin's one! The only possible drawback are those claws. Mind you, if they take 3mins to get from 0 to 5, does it matter? :D

I do hope she does join us. It would be a good outlet for her - as you say - safe and anonymous.

Plus, I want to sample this black humour! :D

It would also be nice to have someone from across t' pond, although the time difference may be awkward.

Mind you, knowing how some of this lot are up half the night, maybe not!!:D

LIR not useless info at all. There are many people working at high level in the NHS who are open about the mental health problems they've experienced/are living with. Rachel Perkins is just one of them http://www.centreformentalhealth.org.uk/recovery/recovery_project_team.aspx
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
  • I think I might even make it to a zoo in a daytime if there was a "Meet a Sloth" experience at the end of it. I have looked for them but zoo's apparently don't do them. I have been tempted by "Meet a Tapir days" too but they are rather expensive. They are another animal I love, it's the nose!

Thank you for that link, Errata! It just enabled me to find my favourite psychiatrist! I was his patient for 8 years when I was first diagnosed with Schizophrenia and he was the one who tried the new therapy with me for MPD. He is a truly lovely man and he helped more than any psychiatrist has since. He was at the top of the field back then and he looks like he is still doing very well! I also know that he has OCD, he used to tell me about his compulsions to make me feel better about mine. It is so nice to see his photo again.

If anyone wishes to know more about him - http://cognitiveconnections.co.uk/about/introducing-stirling-moorey/
