Aw, thank you both! I do have friends who will join in!I honestly never thought to ask here because it is so far from the threads original purpose, but considering we have discussed baking, shopping and language origins I shouldn't have worried about that really! I do love how this thread covers so many topics.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

Thank you SDW! This is making me stupidly happy. I can never normally join in with things that involve other people!Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

I keep seeing people mentioning Relate on the threads here which reminded me of an amusing story. I took a course in couples counselling and had mentioned it to friend. She knew a couple who were having marriage problems and asked if she could refer them to me. Now, I had never worked privately in my life but thought I would give it a try. The wife called me and said she had looked at prices for private counselling and unfortunately couldn't pay me more than £50 an hour. When I picked myself up off the floor I agree to this (it was actually quite cheap rates for private). They chose not to go to Relate because they felt that they would get a better service from private (I have no idea why).
There started 6 months of absolute agony for me! I met them for an hour a week and I had never felt so guilty in my life. I couldn't cope at all with how much they were paying me, this was the kind of thing I did for friends who were having relationship problems in the pub at the weekend! I ended up scrolling over my notes for hours on end desperately looking for something earth-shattering to tell them so that I felt that I had earned the money, every Tuesday I would be totally stressed before our appointment. WaSp didn't help by being amazed and telling me it was more than he earned for a days work! Honestly, I put so much effort into helping them, I would lie awake at night trying to think of helpful things!
Ultimately after 6 months they had managed to communicate and had fallen back in love with each other and were very grateful. I, on the other hand was a guilty wreck! All they actually needed was to learn to listen to each other and talk things out (it had become so bad he was leaving notes on the fridge to her about anything potentially argumentative and then running to work, refusing to discuss it that night and then leaving his reply on the fridge for the next day!), once they did that they were fine. I decided at that point that I simply couldn't ever work as a private therapist, I was far happier with a much lower wage from the NHS or working voluntarily. I could have earned a very good wage doing it, but honestly the guilt was crippling!Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

Meet = Melt (7):heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
