Just googled it, a tuck is a long thin sword, like a rapier, so it would mean you disgusting upright sword.
Not sure if that's a euphemism for something else! :D

    I'm in a clique! It's a clique of one! It's a unique clique!
    I love

  • Haahahahaha! I have no idea, Pyxis. It is probably on an Understanding Shakespeare site somewhere. I am known to swear at WaSp in Shakespearean and Chaucerian at times. Now Chaucer, there was a man who was good at insults.

Ooh, well done! It's bound to be a euphemism, Shakespeare's works are littered with them.

Dibuzz, what will happen when youngest wants to live independently? Or has a partner who works shifts?

The responsibility is a lot for someone who is struggling as you are.
I've no idea but I've been stood next to him with 2 alarms going off and me shouting him and he just doesn't wake up.

Hahahahaha! I used to know what these meant but I have mostly forgotten now (be careful Googling, its Chaucer, they are likely rude). But common ones to throw at WaSp-

    Golter-yeded gawpsheet
    Mundungus
    Gundygut
    Scrimble jawed slaggard

The Pardoners Tale is full of them, although if you want Chaucer at his funniest (and rudest) it has to be The Millers Tale.

I love Chaucer. :) Much more than Shakespeare who frankly, I think is overrated, ( though I know its a cultural crime to say that). Of Shakespeare I prefer the tragedies.

Love it! Unfortunately, the meaning seems to have been lost. :(

  • I prefer Chaucer, too! I took a course in medieval literature just for the fun of it and because I wanted to be able to read Chaucer without looking up words. If nothing else, Chaucer can be outrageously funny and is incredibly good at characterisation.

Hahahahaha! That one is my favourite, Pyxis!

  • Hahahahahaha, brilliant! It is a real shame that these are no longer used, they are so much more inventive than today's insults!
