Are you often bothered with insomnia, Seven-day?
Being awake between two and four a.m. is the worst time ever. If I'm awake for those two hours I feel drunk and hungover for ages. Probably because the body's systems (those dreaded hormones again!) are all at their lowest ebb then. Also it seems to be the hardest time to get back to sleep. Possibly something to do with melatonin levels? I'll have to google it as I can't remember!
It's interesting, because if I'm awake until midnight, sleep, and then wake at 5.00 a.m., I'm fine, but if I sleep at 10p.m., wake at 3a.m., and don't get back to sleep, I feel dreadful for most of the day!
Anyway, Seven-day, thank you for being here!
It's a hangover from when my Restless Leg Syndrome kept me awake all night. Although this is now largely under control with medication, I have never got a decent sleep pattern back and I often wake up in the wee small hours and then I come downstairs, have a drink and go back when I am tired (and RLS symptoms, if present, have quietened down). It is sometimes a bit of a bind, for example if I am staying with friends or in a hotel room and can't wander around in the wee small hours, or put the light on because it will disturb my husband....in these situations I have been known to pace up and down in the ensuite!

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Flying in, lying in my tent. The rain last night was wonderful and I thought of you, WaS. Big hugs to all, especially haybel, and Harry and dibuzz in the lurkosphere xxx and welcome WaSp!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

I thought today was going to be rainified but it is blue skies, and washing on the line already. That's a bonus.
I always like the idea of sleeping in a tent but dislike the reality - maybe I will try glamping at some point. https://www.canopyandstars.co.uk have some great places. Would that be something that you could consider for the future, WaS, a holiday with WaSp in one of the shepherd's huts or something that was quite isolated, or would the lack of space inside be a problem?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. I fell asleep listening to the rain and have woken up to blue skies and a cuckoo calling.
Whitewing what it is about camping you don't like? Your response will tell you if glamping is for you

I think it is the practical side of putting the tent up (or in my case, waiting for DH to put it up as I am totally useless).
I haven't been camping though since I have had treatment for my mh conditions so it may be different now as I am much less anxious about things. Work was usually busy prior to a holiday and then packing etc and the drive over made me worse, so not being able to collapse out of sight as soon as I arrived was difficult. Plus I felt vulnerable in a canvas building; however, that was before I knew that other people weren't necessarily suicidal/homicidal. (Basically, I thought everyone experienced similar feelings to me. They either focused them inwards - suicidal - or against other people - homicidal. I completely bypassed the fact that suicides and homicides are rare in our area in daily life).
I also never tried the campsites that have the tents made up already.
I wasn't so keen on people being around and I do like to have my shower daily, but that isn't usually a problem.
I think glamping could work.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
