Tee-hee! I bet when Pugliet was in Poundland, with the green plastic string stuck to him, he never thought he'd end up in Team WaS, looking after WaS!
He still needs a mini blanket, though! (That little blankety pug-shape still makes me giggle!)

    I'm in a clique! It's a clique of one! It's a unique clique!
    I love

  • I was giggling about that too earlier! I can just picture me under a blanket on a car seat and Sir Pugliet on the car seat next to me under his own blanket. It would be adorable!

I don't pray but I do consider prayers as a way of saying, I am thinking about you and believe my prayer will make a positive difference to your life.

Only the prayee should be asking forgiveness from themselves or praying that they can learn to forgive another.

I do have an issue with so-called Christians thinking it is okay to say something nasty and then pray for forgiveness. We can all be sorry afterwards, so one needs to be careful it doesn't become the easy option.

Your mum was ill and socially isolated, WaS. She was using what she had best knowledge of and adapting it to suit her purposes ie it wasn't really religion that was the problem, it was your family. I know you know this anyway.

As Operation Christmas Child is run by Christians, I wasn't sure if you would have an issue with that.

    WaS,

To put the prayers thing in context I went to a religious school, and and some cross moments with it, but some moments that, more so I retrospect I think quite highly of some ( not all) of those people who had devoted themselves to their religion. I was brought up in a mixed denomination and faith household ( one catholic, one Protestant, one aethiest) and lived in different countries where religious stance and expression was different. I was babtised and took holy communion and love ritual but decided by time of confirmation that it was not for me. The priest I spoke to at the time was FANTASTIC. He said, look, its not a time limited offer, if you change your mine at 18, 88 we're here, if you don't, we're here, I hope you'll still have a cup of tea with me occasionally.

My husband is of another faith background family and is agnostic, sort of.

I'd say I am Spiritual but lack faith. I'm kind of envious of those who find faith. If they want to wish me well in what ever their special way is, then....it hasn't hurt me so far, why should it in the future. I've been to several denomination churches, and a couple of other faith places as a visitor and found them warm places when you are open, even with out belief. So, I think good will , even with out belief, is a good thing.

I believe in the power of community and friendship. Which in one guise is what 'church' is. I believe in the importance of feeling cared for, and also feeling you are important to so,done else, so looking in on a few neighbours ( or Internet chums) and being looked in on, can in its self be healing. If that comes with linguistics and phrases I don't share,...I just have no I'll will about that. Only gratitude.

We celebrate anything and everything we feel like. Celebration is wonderful. All the miracles of all the faiths are incredibly joyous, even without faith, the joy and that wonder and the delight that people do have faith and joy from them uplifts for me.
  • No, I don't have a problem with Christians or anyone who is part of a religion. The triggers are very PTSD specific related to things that happened. In my case I was made to pray for forgiveness by her because I was the work of the Devil and constantly told that God was watching me all the time to see how evil I was. Hence prayers kind of feel like someone is pointing me out to God when for so long as a child I was terrified of him seeing me? Obviously I don't believe that now and I know that my mother was ill but the PTSD scars are still there.

Poundland has some storage drawers too. Don't know what size they are. They may work out cheaper for your meds, even if you have to get more than one.

I am pretty much the same as LIR in terms of spirituality.

That really helps me LIR, as did your other post. It really made me stand back and think because from what I was brought up with religion was always a form of control and punishment, I was repeatedly told God saw me to condemn me. Hence as I said above prayers and entering churches feels like he can see me and when I did have a strong religious belief as a child I was terrified of that. No one had actually said as clearly as you did why someone shouldn't be terrified of prayer before, sometimes it needs to be spelt out.

Now I am agnostic, basically I have no idea but I'll try to be kind and think of others and whatever happens next happens and if there is a God watching me I hope he likes me a little bit or at least doesn't want to condemn me to Hell if it exists.

I celebrate everything because I don't consider myself to have a religious belief. I like the idea of a celebration to bring people together and feel good towards each other and that is what I take part in. I don't care what religious heading it falls under, if people are caring for each, enjoying being together and celebrating that time with others on specific days then I think that it is wonderful.

Btw, no one in the world loves Christmas as much as my ( Jewish) husband , lol.
  • Hahahahaha my partner hates Christmas. Unfortunately for him I insist on a tree, lights, decorations and special foods. He gave up arguing about it years ago and tolerates it on my behalf.
