Another one here who thinks it's probably nothing to worry about, I didn't walk til I was nearly 2.0

As all replies above, childen crawl and walk at different ages. I'd be more concerned about the child being propped up on the sofa, it sounds very unsafe..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
Mine didn't walk until 16 months and 18 months respectively - not wlaking by 13 is relatively common. If not moving around at all I would think she is starting to get a bit bored and will figure something out at some point.0

To not be walking at 13 months is not rare.
To not be crawling at 13 months is a bit rare.
She will come on in her own time.
If she is not walking by say 2 - I would be worried.
I think it benefits them (sometimes) to not walk too soon. I know one lad who walked at 9 months as his nana 'forced' him. He had bandy legs then, and actually had to have minor surgery to correct the problem. when he was about 6 or 7.
My parents reckoned that I didn't ever crawl. Apparently at aged 18 months I just got up and walked.
Apparently my sister in law didn't say any word, until aged 2 when she blurted out "That doesn't taste very nice Mother"0 -
Before I read this thread I knew exactly what it was going to say.
I'm a mum to an 8 month old. Although still young a friend of mine has a 13 month old who is only literally starting to pull herself up and crawl. She only sat up at around 11 months and is absolutely tiny. At my son's age she wasn't bearing weight on her legs.
She was fraught that she was so behind and then recently she's just away. Doing everything.
The thing is everyone has an opinion with babies. They should be doing this, that and the other. As a first time mum I can tell you it makes you feel rotten (although I know your friend is not a ftm I'm sure she is aware when her child is behind on milestones).
I've recently had someone comment that my boy doesn't crawl because he's carried round all the time (not true. . He's heavy! ) I didn't realise my child's development was everyone else's business. I find myself getting defensive and trying to explain he actually likes walking with daddy holding his arms and rolling everywhere at the moment.
I do think you should butt out. us mums aren't stupid and have a relative jist of when a baby should hit their milestones. I'm sure if she was worried she'd seek advice but at 13 months I don't think any of what you've posted is a worry0 -

How on earth did she 'force' him to walk?0 -
My daughter (now 18) bum shuffled until she was 20 months and 14 days old. The day after she started walking, she decided she could also crawl.0

Probably the same as my stupid neighbour: she kept standing her grand-daughter up and walking her along the floor whilst holding her under the arms, and then would let go to see if she'd walk, She didn't, she just flopped on the floor. She kept repeating this action, and the baby kept crying.
She did it for weeks and weeks, and her daughter and SIL said nothing! I remember asking if she should be doing that, but was quickly hushed. She started this when she was about 10 months old. In the end the baby didn't walk til she was 20 months old!Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

I did see something a year or so ago on the Beeb, I think it was narrated by Robert Winston. They were looking at babies in an African country. I can't remember the ins and outs but the gist of it was that the babies there walked VERY early and this was due to family input, I *think* they were always putting them on their feet and encouraging them to walk. I will try to find a link.0
