A little worried regarding a friends 13 month child, advice if possible please

As the title says Im just a little concerned about my friends child.
Shes a little girl and shes now 13 months old.
Shes a healthy little poppet and always happy and smiling.
However she dosent crawl or get up or even walk,is this normal or am I concerned unnessersary???
Her family has mentioned it to the mum,her friends have asked why shes not even crawling yet at 13 months, all she seems to do when I arrive is to be propped up on the settee.
When anyone mentions it to her she just shrugs it off and says she is in her walker all the time and she does crawl..Ive never seen it and neither has her family or friends.
Now if this is normal in some children then fine, she will crawl and walk in her own good time, but when I see other children even younger walking with their mums it just makes me think is this right??
Don't get me wrong, she is a great mum that Im certain of but when anyone mentions taking her to the doctors just for a check up she just replies that she does crawl and walk,,however all we see is the little poppett sat propped up on the settee.
So far I haven't said anything,is it worth keeping quiet??
Please don't flame the mum,I know she loves her child dearly.
Its her second child by the way,her other child is almost 9.

your friend's health visitor or doctor on her check-ups for the baby would suggest things if they had concerns.

FWIW, my DD was late doing everything, first teeth, she never crawled, she cruised then walked, but not until after 13 months. At this stage, its nothing to worry about.

Whether it be crawling/walking/toilet training or anything else there are always children who hit their milestones later than the average.

Leave the poor woman alone. She has brought up another child so doubtless knows how to do so and you say the child is happy and smiling. Sorry to be a little grumpy but I had my fill of people telling me my children should be doing this and that at such and such an age. I am sure she is fine.

For the record my daughter was 17 months old before she walked. She neither crawled nor bum shuffled but just sat there! She will be fine. Why don't you believe your friend when she says she crawls at other times? What possible motive could she have for lying?
  • When you say leave the poor woman alone,I haven't said one word to her about it,all Ive done is observe it and that is why Im asking for advice. If enough members say don't worry about it then fine I wouldn't worry about it so please don't flame me when all I was asking for is advice.
Its nice to say its not something to worry about ballet

To not be walking at 13 months is not rare.

To not be crawling at 13 months is a bit rare.

She will come on in her own time. :)

If she is not walking by say 2 - I would be worried.

I think it benefits them (sometimes) to not walk too soon. I know one lad who walked at 9 months as his nana 'forced' him. He had bandy legs then, and actually had to have minor surgery to correct the problem. when he was about 6 or 7.
    You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:

Both of m daughters did not crawl til past 12 months and both didn't walk until they were nearly 1 and a half. Every child is different.

It will happen in time. If she is thriving in all other areas I would not worry. For each milestone there are children who develop early, those who are average and those who are late. She will do eventually.

I would probably start getting worried around 18 months if it was me.

My daughter was 16 months before she walked, she never crawled at all, and she was fine.

If your friend herself is worried, she should talk to her health visitor or GP.

Other than that, I'm sure the little girl will get there, in the end.

    Kin :)
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
  • Thanks so much for your replys everyone,at least now I don't feel too concerned.Maybe she just likes to be different and in time she will be running her poor mum ragged around the house, phew!!

exactly - and thats when mum will need eyes in the back of her head :D.
  • One of mine only walked at 18 months. She only crawled a little bit before that. All the others walked around 12 months, they are all different. Try not to worry.
