DMP & Mutual Support Thread - Part 10

Hi all,
Just on the off chance that some of you perhaps don't wander too far from this thread I thought I should point out that there are a few "dubious" threads and comments on other DFW threads which seem to be extolling the virtues of fee charging debt management companies...
If you do happen to see any then don't be fooled, nobody is going to be able to arrange anything different or better for you than your free provider and by using a bit of elbow grease
Remember that a newbie saying "I saved loadsa money by using *insert website minus www so it's not a link here* so paying a fee was a good thing!" is probably spam and no better than cold callingbe warned, be smart (which I know you all are anyway).

^ What MB of G says - don't do it! Never pay for someone to distribute your debt, that money should be going 100% towards your debt.
Please read Fermi's excellent advice:

If this is the wrong thread apologies (please point to correct thread).
Anyway we have written to all our creditors (self managed dmp). We have a house that we rent out, at present we rent to a relative whose rent just covers the mortgage. Prior to that we had a tenant in their for about 12 months, he moved out but did not cancel his direct debit (we found this out last night). So for two months he has been paying money into an account (we do not use anymore) that is overdrawn (one of our creditors), in that two months charges have been taking out of the account, so about 1/4 of that rent has been taken out in charges.
He is now asking for all his money back (which I fully understand), but our financial situations means that we are unable to do. This is just another stress that we have to contend with, as if we did not have enough to worry about!
Any advice/help would be appreciated.
Regards.
Hi City
I think this is possibly not the best thread, for this one, and I'm sure I'm not the best to answer but I'll give you my ideas and see if you can get anywhere with them.
1. I think you are not yet into your DMP, if you were to pay token payments like recommended by Puzz and others earlier, would this give you enough breathing space to pay back the tenant?
2. Could the tenant use the direct debit guarantee scheme to reclaim the payments back out of that account, I truly don't know how this works but it's a suggestion. The only thing is from my understanding a direct debit is managed by an organisation claiming the money, in this case you...so it would be on you that it wasn't cancelled, although yes tenant should have cancelled it too, if it was a standing order, then it was on him to cancel it and the direct debit scheme wouldn't apply in which case this doesn't help you at all.
3. Ask national debtline for advice (free and sometimes appear on the forums)
Hope this helps you start fixing itDebt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.
