From Little Acorns...

I've been a very long time reader of this website and especially this forum. We bought our family home about 7 years ago and have been steadily overpaying where possible since then. Our plan is to pay off our mortgage by 2021, knocking over 10 years off the original term. We are overpaying monthly and adding lump sums where possible but to hit our target we need to find another 4k each year which is where the little acorns bit comes in.
I am a SAHM/student at the moment so I am trying to chip away at the £300 ish a month that we need by doing things that sometimes seem really small but ultimately will help towards where we want to be.
I wanted to start this diary as both my accountability and my motivation! Consistency is what will make or break this challenge (thank goodness for spellcheck) and though the amounts I generate may be small, from little acorns mighty oaks grow.

Planning menu tonight for June whilst watching a bit of rubbish telly to ease the boredom. Won't get the cots uploaded to GumTr** tonight as I had a look at the photos I have and they aren't brill so I'll take a few tomorrow morning pre- kids getting up. Also off to find a final book to qualify me for a trade in for some books I have.

Hello,
Good luck to you. You have been very sensible in overpaying from the start. I found that the best way to save was just to keep out of shops completely unless you really need something, rather than wanting it, and then just go in, get it and come out again. The shops are so good at making their goods seem so attractive but the majority are unnecessary and overpriced.
I am sure that just by keeping out of temptation's path, you will be successful. Children just want your time and love home made things.
As for adults, we can see through the marketing!
All the very best,

Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
Good luck with your plans.
I'll look forward to reading about your progressEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Squirrel - you are soooo right about the shops, I'm an online food shopper and really try not to go in mid week unless I really have to. Since I've had kids I'm amazed at how many things I've been able to make for them to play with rather than buy. They don't care about things being realistic just fun, and nothing I mean nothing beats a cardboard box!GC Feb - £190/£200
