    Hi Emily & Matthew :hello:

Wasn't sure whether to start a new thread or not, but I'll do a mini post and someone can let me know :)

I've been on a DMP (with Payplan) for 6 months now. I am considering changing career in a year's time which would involve me going back to uni for 3 or 4 years, surviving on student loans. I'd hope to still be able to pay my DMP, but I may need to reduce the monthly amount. I am aware that creditors will consider accepting lower payments for justifiable reasons, but I'm not sure if mine would count or not, in which case, would they threaten to make me bankrupt (something else I've considered doing).

I have approx £26,000 of debt left, paying £156pm, debt free in approx 14 years, 6 creditors.

    Thanks so much :T

As a debt advice charity we are here to give free impartial advice to anyone that needs it, whether they have had existing correspondance from other companies such as PayPlan or not. We hope that being part of this forum would allow us to answer problems or queries that you may have as best as we can, and hope to be a welcome asset to the people that already offer good advice on this forum.

As you can appriciate, it is often difficult to give detailed advice via this forum without knowing more about an individuals situation which is why we would prompt people to get in contact with us directly if needs be. We would never like to be put in the situation where we may have given bad advice on the basis that we did not know all the information that we would need to make that judgement. As Emily mentioned earlier in the thread, if people have queries or questions it is probably better to raise them in individual threads, as to deal with many queries in one thread can be confusing for us!

Ok shoot me down in flames if you wish but i think we are in a danger here of a schoolyard mentallity devolping.Ie 'My Dad is bigger than your Dad'. All the free companys are here to help and nots let forget about the National debtline etc. Forgive me Matthew if i speak out of turn but we are all on here for help and i have had experience of both CCCS and Payplan and at this time Payplan are better for me. That is not to say that the CCCS are not the same ,in fact in my dealing with them they were excellent. My worry is that someone who is in the first stages of their financial problems may have set up with Payplan etc and reading this may be thinking ;My god I have done the wrong thing '. Lets not forget we are ALL here because we have a problem and the thing that has helped me has been the collective advice of people in similiar positions. I Hope that you and Emily are on here as debt advisors and as people but i can see a divide appearing. That is why i have replied from the start as the problem is more global than what company is dealing with you debt problems. I hope that did not come across as negative but i would like to think that i could ask your advice and that of Emiliy's if i needed it because the community on here has been a fabulous support to me .
Good luck and i hope to speak again soon.

Took a long time to think weather to post this but it had to be said

It maybe best to set up a seperate thread for this to make things easier, as this thread is getting difficult to follow!

CCCS helped me a huge amount when I made the decision to declare bankruptcy. I love them to bits!

I have a question. Why is it that CCCs always seem to put bankruptsy as a first option for us. They refuse to help as we have too little money to live on yet working on our own DMP we have cleared off nearly one third of our debt in 18 months.

I dont mean to pry but have you gone back to the CCCS and let them reassess the situation? I was turned down for a DMP as I had nothing t o pay the creditors but they still helped wit hthe paperwork/templates and now 6 months later when I contacted them again and gave them an update I received a new Client ref Number and was offered a DMP what I have currently not taken as I am managing it ok myself at present.

As has been mentioned elsewhere, there are other free debt-planning consultants such as National Debt Line and PayPlan as has been mentioned earlier. Not taking away the work you guys do nor am I suggesting any one organisation over another, I just feel it's fair that people know that there are other options.

I personally tried two of the three I am aware of a couple of years ago and got very different responses from both. That's not to say either was wrong, just two very different solutions to a similar problem
