Hi there everyone,
My name is CCCS_Matthew and I work as a Debt Counsellor for the debt advice charity Consumer Credit Counselling Service. Many of you on here will probably be already aware who we are and the services we provide, but I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce ourselves.
CCCS is a registered charity, and there is no charge whatsoever for any of the services we provide. We take great pride in offering first class help and advice. While we are aware that there are already many people here that give good debt advice, my colleague CCCS_Emily and I, aim to be a welcome addition to the site by giving professional debt advice.
We will try and provide as much advice as possible on this forum, however in some cases it maybe beneficial for you to get in contact with CCCS directly, so we can give you more detailed advice. Feel free to take a look at our website www.cccs.co.uk; otherwise Emily and Iare happy to answer any queries.

We take great pride in offering first class help and advice, but we only offer this where we have been able to fully explore and understand your circumstances with you. We want to help you understand these choices and their possible implications but not make them for you.

Hi Matthew - and welcome to DFW. You will see, if you have not already done so, that CCCS, along with other Debt Charities, are held in high esteem, in this forum.
We welcome the input of people like you and Emily, as the majority of us can only give advice based on our own experience. We are, so often, being put down by 'rogue posters' and 'TROLLS' who will say anything to 'rubbish' the advice we give.
Hope you have an enjoyable stay.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Suspect you will be busy.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Hi Ken,
The most common way a creditor would be able to get at any of the equity within your property would be to apply to the courts for a charge. A Charge is whereby they are trying to secure the full amount of debt that you owe the creditor onto the house, rather than you paying them via installments such as in a DMP.
Generally creditors have to wait for you to default on a CCJ before applying for a charge, but in recent cases creditors have applied for a CCJ asking for the full amount and therefore giving them the opportunity to go for a charge on the property.
You always have the opportunity to defend a charge on the property, and ensuring that you have a realistic budget to prove that your offer of payment is fair would help you in this area as you can show that your are doing your upmost to give your creditors as much as you can realistically give. The chance of a judge accepting a charge on a property does vary depending on the circumstances, such as the length of time it would take to pay the debt back through a DMP.
If you want to speak about anything like this in more detail you can always give us a call and we can answer any queries you may have
