Fruitcake Neighbours

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone would like to share any experiences with batty neighbours. My parents have been gobsmacked by their next door neighbour's behaviour and it'd be nice to let them know they're not alone.

This weekend we had a BBQ. We were told promptly by their next door neighbour that having a BBQ on such a nice day was utterly disgusting. We were then promptly showered down with her hose, soaking the BBQ, us and the food. She then barricaded herself in the house and claimed that we had 'started on her.'

Anyone?

After she sprayed us we made a formal record with 101 and my dad logged it on their massive sheet of disputes.

They are going for a 'face to face' meeting this week to 'iron' out issues.

I take it you called the police?

For me, we have one quirky neighbour who three of us have commented on! Every time one of us gets something new for the house a few weeks later they'll get the same thing. It's sad more than anything to be honest.

Christ that sounds rough. Surely this goes beyond petty council dispute filing? Sounds like assault and criminal damage to me.

Yes, this is the same neighbour. PCSOs came around and attempted to have a word with her but she refused to answer the door.

So just the latest in a series of nasties? How long has it been going on and how did it start?

It is hard to say without more info.

Were there lots of you in the garden making lots of noise and disturbing them?

Did they have their washing out and the smoke meant they would have to wash all their clothes again?

Was the bbq positioned near their fence / house so the smoke would blow in any open doors / windows so they had to keep everything shut?

I think bbq's can be a pain for others for those sorts of reasons. Did you consider inviting them over at least? Even if they declined just making the effort to say you're having a party etc

Also is this a once a year thing or is it every week as if it was disturbing them that much with smoke in their garden etc etc you could understand why she might have lost it like that.

This has been going on for a good two years I think. My mum and dad are pretty tolerant but she really took it a step too far.

Nothing really to start it. We went into the back garden, fired up the barbie, sat at the table and had a drink and a chat and then she came out screaming bloody murder.

She then claimed her fence was on fire on her side, which was basically an excuse to get the hose out, and hosed us all down. Fence was definitely not on fire as BBQ was nowhere near fence.

BBQ was lit for 30-45 minutes max. We were in the garden an hour max. My parents have two BBQs a year max. Four adults having general conversation at normal tone. No idea about washing as the fence is seven foot high so can't see. No chance in hell would we consider inviting them over as there has been serious neighbour disputes for years.
