Exactly, and I recommended Dublin because OP's wife is pregnant and doesn't want to do anything too strenuous.

Just seems a shame to go all of the way to Dublin and not be able to have a pint of the black stuff. Then again, they did used to say that Guinness was good for pregnant women...

I love both cities so am unbiased.

I find Dublin easier to get around than London probably because it is smaller and obviously less packed.

The rail and sail is a reasonably priced option although I have never done it.

lol!!! You are so defensive. And still talking a lot of bull about Dublin. Any right minded person reading your posts will realise your talking nonsense. Walk on and waste your energy spreading your nasty opinions elsewhere.

I live in Ireland and spend at least one day a week in Dublin on business.
    And you ?

Totally agree, that's why I recommend it also :) I really like both, but Dublin would suit better in this case I think. Just the issue of cost. The train deals are good.

Yes same here. I thought for the op's circumstances Dublin would be the better choice on this occasion.

Wow, didn't realise this would generate such a hot topic lol. Thanks for all the opinions guys. I think in terms of travel time it'll be easier on the wife to go to London. We'd like to have the car around so, although a good idea, the train-ferry deal might not be suitable.

I think London is the first choice due to the ferry costing not far off the price of the hotels for London as planning to go for 3 nights.

Plan is to go to the zoo, see a show and probably go to Ripleys and fit some shopping in somewhere (my wife needs some maternity clothes!). Can anyone recommend anywhere else to go? I'm not good with heights so avoiding the London eye!

Thanks for all your thoughts though. Really helpful in confirming London as the ideal place.

It means I probably have a more accurate view of Dublin that one seen through the bottom of a pint glass in Temple Bar that unsuspecting tourists think is authentic Ireland.;)

It all depends on what your interests are. I like galleries and there's loads of those. I enjoy the National Portrait and National Gallery (both of Trafalgar Square) or the Wallace Collection (in behind John Lewis off Oxford Street) and then there's the Tate or Tate Modern.

The Number 11 bus route is as good as a sightseeing tour. Catch it in Whitehall and it'll take you right through the city, ending up at Liverpool Street.

I also like the views from the river so it's worth taking a Thames Cruiser (or similar) from the Embankment (opp London Eye) down to Greenwich. Greenwich is good for a walk around too but the trek up to the meridian might be too much. The boats are really comfortable and a good way of taking the weight off your feet.

When you're shopping go to Harrods and look at the Food Hall, the tiles are amazing.

Go to Leicester Square to the ticket booth and see what's available by means of a show.

    Have a great time.:)
