Hmm I think I've just been threatened ...

..in a non direct way

A buyer on Ebay who sent me this message word for word:

My item arrived damaged BECAUSE OF YOUR POOR PACKAGING and I want to know what you are going to do about it before I leave feedback tomorrow (MONDAY) as I will be leaving FEEDBACK TOMORROW and my son is DEVASTED as we could not use it and it was his BIRTHDAY and had to buy one from the shops
I look forward to YOUR RESPONSE before I LEAVE FEEDBACK

So nice eh ?
Not a direct threat and I send the following message:
I'm so sorry your item did not reach you in perfect condition, I have refunded you in full x

What I really wanted to say was:
Don't threaten me because you know I have a 100% record you **** and you know I have to refund you and beg for your forgiveness, I hate people who threaten me so go on, do your worst, it is people like you that make sellers want to leave Ebay !!
I do not think your item arrived damaged at all, not for one minute was it damaged, I have sent exactly 2047 of these items out IN THE SAME packaging as yours - over 2000 !! in the exact same packaging and guess what, not one has been damaged and I have nothing but glowing feedback for my packaging on this item, but yes I've refunded you as I have to respond to feedback extortion or the business I've worked hard to build up will go down the pan you **** !

Erm... I think I feel a little better now so I think I'll have a nice [STRIKE]bottle[/STRIKE] glass of wine :rotfl:

I would have asked for the item to be returned 1st.

Could you have packed it better?

    I feel your pain.

Just before I went on holiday I got an email from a buyer complaining that my item wasn't as described and she was upset/devastated/ spoilt her day (bla bla bla) . Apparently I was using a stock photo which was misleading and the item was nothing like the photo.

As my holiday was imminent and the item was cheap I apologised and told her to donate it to a charity shop and sent her a full refund. What I wanted to say was :

I have sold approx 300 of this item, that is not a stock photo but I am flattered you think my poor effort at photography is so good. You are obviously too stupid to work out what the item is and if you don't donate it to a charity shop I hope you end up feeling really guilty.

  • I could have packed it even better lol but I don't think for a £3.00 item they would have appreciated the extra £3.00 postage costs for another 3 layers of unnecessary bubble wrap !
Not one of the other 2000+ customers who have bought the same item have had any issue with the packaging and hundreds have left 'well packaged' type comments on my feedback so I think I was probably just due a 'I can buy something I want and get my money back' buyer at some point as 99% of my customers are wonderful !
I didn't ask for return as what's the point, just bite my lip and refund followed by a new addition to my blocked bidder list

I don't normally rant, but weirdly now, this sort of thing just makes me want to just not bother

I feel better for getting it off my chest anyway, but sorry for the rant ! (I am normally a very quiet, happy person I promise)

  • What goes around comes around I keep singing to myself :rotfl:

And just to top the day off, I've had an email from another buyer who bought an item last night at 11.05pm and says it hasn't arrived yet and do I know when it will get there

    So, my reply goes:
Hi, as your item was purchased last night, it will be sent tomorrow morning which is the next working day and as you requested RM 2nd Class it can take 3-5 working days so should arrive by Saturday
    Hope this helps

And what I want to say:
Do you think I sit on the steps of the post office at 11.05pm on a Saturday night hoping it will open so I can post your parcel or has the private jet I hired for your £8.99 item not landed in your garden yet ? Please let me know which delivery method you would have preferred in order to receive it less than 24 hours after you bought it ?
Oh and while you are doing that, consider how I had to wait 4 days for your payment and that I might really want to take a slow 4 day walk to the post office to send it to you :D

Glass of wine number 2 me thinks ........

I think you need to stop selling on eBay, it is clearly driving you mental.

I always think it's a shame when sellers cave in to these threats and just refund without any evidence of damage to "avoid the hassle" - it just encourages these types of buyer to repeat the threats on another seller.

It's certainly a shame that sellers feel like that, but in the current climate I fully understand why sellers 'cave in'.

They are constantly anxious that they are going to pick up defects from completely unreasonable/unpleasant buyers, often for things that were not under their control, with no protection from eBay. No wonder it's got to the point where people will do anything to avoid potential bother.

This one sounds like feedback exhortion to me, but I wouldn't be confident that eBay would do anything about it - would probably side with the buyer as they didn't have a good buying experience.

It sucks, but that's eBay these days

oooooft I feel your pain. and totally get your "this is what I would have sent" responses!

Last week I had a buyer open a case because he said the item I sent didn't work........ in his opening message he called me an "F'ing C-Bomb".

He also left me negative feedback before I had a chance to respond, which I his choice, but these buyers don't seem to realise that you catch more flies with honey.

After this I responded to the case with the automated response asking him to return it for a refund, reminding him that he should send it recorded to cover himself. (even though the item is only worth £7)

Should he have been polite, or in fact, not even called me an F'ing C, I would have just told him to keep it and I would have refunded him in full.
