    Thanks guys :o

Feeling much better today :) I think I was just having one of those !!!! days! Anyway, need to get back on track.

My Race for Life t-shirt came yesterday, reminding me I need to push myself to train. I missed my session on Friday, but I did spend all day walking around town today. I'll be back at the gym on Monday!

It's my last day at work on Tuesday, then starting my new job the week after. New job = new me! :j

WantToBeSE don't feel disheartened, I be you're looking and feeling much better for your healthy eating and exercise!

Glad to hear you are feeling better about things today Bunnie. I am off to the gym on Monday too, as well as tomorrow. Next week is really manic in work, totally busy and doing more hours than I normally do, so I need to make sure that I don't miss the gym because I am too tired. Monday is my only easy day, I finish work at 12.30 and can be in the gym ready to sweat at 1pm :D
Wednesday and Friday i'll have to go about 4pm instead of earlier as I am working until 2.45, then collect the kids from school, do all my mummy duties (:D) and then I can give them a snack before hitting the gym.
We can put on 2-3 pounds in a day with food and fluid intake

Its very likely to be water weight and not fat. Take your measurements, a better indicator of whether your workouts are working.

And when you are losing weight, it can go up, down, up down, thats how it was for me, its rare that people lose weight and never put a pound back on

Thanks PS. I really am only going to weigh myself every Monday from now on, not in-between. Yes, I think i'll start measuring with the old tape measure as well.

Feeling good today, have eaten well and am looking forward to the gym tomorrow morning. Again, I am hoping to get there early to avoid the busy time.

    Morning all :)

Had a nice workout at the gym today :) and we are off swimming this afternoon.

10 mins on bike (warm up
    1600m rowing (approx. 8 mins)
    Weights (arms and legs)
    20 mins on treadmill, speed @ 5.9, incline @ 5.5
5mins of cross trainer (building this up slowly!)
    Weights.

I really do feel that I could push myself harder, but don't want to spend more than an hour and a half at the gym. As it is,i spend between 1hr and 1hr 15mins.

    Advice please?

I weighed myself today, just out of curiosity and have to admit that I was a bit disappointed to see that I have GAINED a pound! Maybe I need to get even stricter with my diet.

Some women gain weight at the time of the month, it is generally water and will go away by itself - until next time!

I amyet to come on my period. I have all the usual signs and symptoms but for some reason its just not happening.
I have let my disappointment go and just reminding myself that I am going for FITNESS, not just weight loss.
It may be all in my mind, but I am feeling fitter and healthier already :)

I am suffering a lot with my ears since starting the swimming too.

What about getting ear plugs for when you are swimming, WantToBeSE? They may help reduce the ear problems you are having.
Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. I am in crisis and need a supporting hand to keep me on the right and just path. My mind is troubled but I will strive to keep it set on you, as your infinite wisdom will show me the way to a just and right resolution. Amen.

Yes it is, why, don't you think I should be? I am so new at fitness that the weights machines only take me about 10mins each time to do.

I would love to, but have the kids with me when swimming so need to keep an ear out for them (pardon the pun!).

You can mix weights and cardio, but you need to get the balance right so that one doesnt take away from what the other one is trying to do

When I do weights, I do weights first, then cardio

Preferable with a few hours break inbetween one and the other

Doesnt always happen like that because sometimes I dont want to make the trip back out again, but its always weights and then cardio

Some gym instructors will do programmes for people where they are using cardio vascular equipment and thats fine

I just wouldnt do cardio, lift some weights, do more cardio and lift more weights

A lot depends on what your goals are and what you want to achieve.

I know that some people workout with light weights and dont really want to progress from that, but as you workout more and your weights get heavier, I would do the weights section of your workout first and cardio after.

My goals are fat loss and building muscle. Can you explain what you mean when you say 'you need to get the balance right so that one doesnt take away from what the other one is trying to do'? I need to make sure that I am maximising my time in the gym to get the best results possible, so your input is really appreciated.

When you lift weights, you are basically looking to fatigue the muscle to get benefits and that will happen when you do a longer programme. When I lift heavy weights, I dont get big, thats not my aim.

But to get the most from the weights section of your workout, youd be looking to do that for about 30-45 mins and then move onto cardio

I do get that you are new to the gym and that your current programme might just be to get you used to the machines and to improve your overall fitness

But as your programme gets revised, I think you would be looking to do more weights rather than cardio and do your cardio if you can at classes such as HIIT
