But I would be able to prove I have insurance, so it wouldn't be a problem.
I have seen other sites where people pay monthly, 1 month doesn't pay for some reason, they are unaware and insurance is cancelled, as far as they are concerned they are insured as they have the certificate and the direct debit is set up.0 -

This is just getting worse, so you must be constantly checking throughout the year! In your scenario you wouldn't know how long after a failed DD before they cancelled your insurance so you would need to check on a daily basis.0 -
One thing I have learnt in life is don't sweat the small stuff and this really comes under that category and can easily be resolved.
The majority of drivers will never even have heard of MID.
You all must be of a certain young age if this worries you.
Yes, because only younger people worry about potentially being pulled over and thus being late to arrive somewhere.
What a stupid post.0 -

Your insurance company must contact you to tell you that your insurance is about to be cancelled.
They normally write, but some companies only email.
The problem arises when people miss this communication.
There have also been cases (I personally know one) where the insurance company have made a typo on the registration number, so the vehicle is not insured. (In this case they normally agree that you would have been covered, and sort the mistake.)
Hence you should carefully check your certificate on arrival.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I'm baffled as to why you're bemused.
It could be because I think you are all anally retentive about your desire to check and double check whether you are insured or not.
I personally don't feel the need as you I am sure you are all aware of by now.
But hey ho, each to their own.0 -
And are we supposed to care about your bemusement?
If you weren't prepared to offer constructive advice or comment, why did you bother posting in this thread in the first place?
You have obviously been taking your get brave pills which is a big change from your original post. Where your insurance was switched over a weekend and within 41 minutes of that switch you were on here bleating about why your details weren't updated on the MID.
If it worried you that much then I assume you didn't drive whilst the rest of us with a pair of cojones would have just carried on because we knew we had an insurance certificate.0
