Splitting the bills? Is anything other than 50/50 unfair?

Hi, I agree with the equal split and equal partnership in sharing tasks. I have a slightly different situation.
My girlfriend earns less than me and we have recently bought a house she was worried about the size of the mortgage and to put her at ease I worked out the full income/outcome including food, holidays, savings etc and determined with our combined wage we will be comfortable. (All good and well)
We opened a joint account for all bills and now have our salaries paid in. We also have a separate account where we pay the remainder split in to each account evenly for fun.
However. I can not earn overtime but my girlfriend can. She takes 100% over her overtime/bonuses into her personal account.
her argument is that she has worked extra, but even with overtime her wage is less than what I earn so effectively even though I earn more I end up with less! Am I being unreasonable?0 -

Absolutely not! If the agreement is that everything earned is joint money, that includes overtime payments. How selfish of her to keep that money for herself.:(0 -

But he doesn't feel 'funny' expecting you to do all the chores, does he?0 -
I earn 4 x what my wife earns, so I currently pay all of the bills and she pays for holidays.0

Only just remembered I posted here, I was the one who said my partner and I pay 50% of our income after tax into our joint account and it works for us, which set off the debate - of course it works, for you!
Just for info (and I dont even know why I have come to justify it) my partner earns £1250 after tax so pays £625, I earn approx £1430 after tax but I actually pay in £800, so it actaully means we have a similar disposable income anyway. He has £625 and I have approx £630 so it doesnt work 'for me' at any disadvatage to him.
Its been like this since we first moved in but I said 50% of salaries just to make my original post a bit more easy to read and we always said it would be 50% of each before we moved in together.
I think as long as both of you are happy and comfortable and agree on what you decide to do then great.Slimming World Member - Started 05/02/150 -
Me and my girlfriend are talking about her moving in. Our combined income is about £42,000 of which I earn 60% of. My suggestion is that I pay 60% of the household expenses except for Sky Sports, that's my indulgence.
But further doing the sums I notice that I will still end up with more disposable income per month so I might up my %age to make it more equal. I don't want her to be worse off than me, I love her and want us to be the same.0 -

Instead of paying 60% of the bills, you could put combine everything that's earned by both of you, set aside what's needed for bills and savings for holidays, emergencies, etc, and then split what's left between the two of you.
That way you both have the same amount of personal money each month.
(I would include Sky Sports as a household bill)0 -
My partner and I throw into one pot, but he pays probably 75% of the costs as he earns more than me.0
