Chuggers in ASDA but never M&S or Waitrose

To me a chugger isn't someone offering a service in exchange for a donation or a tin rattler .
It is people employed to accost people on the street and present a hard sell pitch to persuade them to sign up by direct debit to make regular donations. The charity pay their employers to do this and they are paid on commission only. A sales pitch will often start with "Do you care about babies dying of cancer" or something equally leading.
I do take notice of which charities employ this method-and refuse to donate in the future to any that do .I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Well, ive never seen them in the store, only in the entrance part.
BTW their not allowed to "Shake" the tin .0 -
It is such a pain. They are cluttered around the door or at the tills. I would never give to them, it is a form of blackmail.
"Give me a donation or you will look mean and hard-hearted in front of all these people " :mad:0 -
I think the OP needs to clarify what they mean by chuggers. I do supermarket collections for Cats Protection League and the Dog & Cat's Home, it's an important source of income for them.
If you don't like it, don't give. I couldn't care less if you ignore me.0 -
I've seen the "pack for cash mob" in a Tesco, local Waitrose stopped it and outside collectors when they started their own charity thing but never seen them in Harrods food hall.0

Why can't the chuggers annoy the toffs in Waitrose and M&S or are they banned in case they offend the self-proclaimed middleclass?
I shop in Waitrose and M&S and am neither middle class or a toff. Should I call you a low life peasant because you shop in Asda? Of course not, because that would be making assumptions and would also be quite rude.
Enjoy your charity collectors0 -

Are they really causing you such hassle?
Do they really ask - in so many words - for a donation from you?
If they are actually asking for donations from shoppers or are stopping you from walking out of the store, then I would complain to the store manager.
BUT - in my own personal experience, they don't do that.
I'm almost unaware of their existence when I do my shopping in Tesco.
I give to a number of charities close to my heart by DD and don't often donate in the street.0 -
Thanks toffs, for your answers.
Still, why don't the chuggers go to people who can afford to donate, such as yourselves in the posh shops.
Because the 'posh shops' are not as likely to have them in - they need permission from the shop to be there.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
its usually youngsters trying to raise funds for their sports club which i think is a good thing and im happy to support, they pack your bags for you0

I am only posting on this thread so I can be a toff.
I shop in
Tesco
Sainsburys
Asda
Waitrose
Lidl
M&S
B&M
I don't feel confused about my social status however.
Aggressive chuggers do annoy me for about 3.14 seconds - I just smile at them but don't engage.0
