How much is your average monthly electric bill?

  • I hired one of those energy monitoring devices from my local library - FREE!!

by simple process of elimination we figured out what was the most expensive, really really enlightening - would highly recommend it.

we are electric only - no gas.

the electric shower - really rather high - the kettle probably second highest - really pleasantly surprised by my electric oven and hob - very efficient indeed, always worried about cooking for too long before but once the oven is up to temperature - keeping it there for our oven cost peanuts so stews etc were back on the menu :) I also ended up going to the gym a damn sight more as i realised how much money showering after a quick work out would save me there! and i was making the best of my membership.

we have incredibly inefficient heating and boiler and our average monthly spend is just under £80 a month for a one bed flat with only two adults - we do work from home but as we discovered thanks to our library; the PC's are not the source of the evil - and we do tumble dry when it rains - which i concur is a lot!! but that isn't the source of the evil either. We are slight energy nazis - i walk round the house turning lights off, everything that can (obv not fridge and freezer) go off does go off everytime we leave the house.

so its off to our landlord with our findings and fingers crossed for a more energy efficient heating and hot water system :)

We're at £80 pm. Which seems horrendously high. We're all electric, three adults in house, storage heaters, immersion etc etc. But we do have Economy 7 so we run the dishwasher and washing machine during the night. We've tried putting the slow cooker on overnight too, but I found that the scent of delicious food cooking kept waking me up! We also try to charge phones etc during the night only. We don't have a tumble dryer.

Oh yeah, and we live very high up in the hills in the frozen North!

we pay £75 per month for both and were £100 credit after last bill so hoping that is ok for extra used during the winter quarter.

We now pay £40 per month for Electric and £50 per month for Gas. Both are with the highest chargers (you can guess). Just had to have entire new gas central heating, so hoping £50 may come down.

Average sized 3 bed place but detached with the disadvantage of no houses either side to help keep it warm !! :rotfl:

Have never found either provider to be accurate, even with me giving them actual readings quarterly. Gas was at £72 per month and Elec at £70 per month a year ago. Just ended up with them giving us a large credit back. They didn't believe me initially when I said there's no way we're using £142 per month - and I was right !

we pay £80 a month and are some £300 in debt!! However it appears that the source of this was the underfloor heating(we had it on 24/7 all year. Ouch!!) as this stopped working last year and EDF gave a comparison of the electric used for similar periods for the previous two years. So hopefully this should be able to reduce the outstanding balance and also the DD payment each month.Even more so that daughter went to Uni 3 months ago.

I now seem to be paying £100 per month for electricity...this seems a lot. It appears I have a 3-phase meter with 6 digits. The electricity company is reading all six digits - does anyone know if this is correct? (as opposed to reading the first five digits and excluding the last one which you can see going round).

One adult and 2 kids (5 & 7) in a 2 bed mid terrace. About £30pm for us inc using a tumble dryer 5-6 times a week and having an electric cooker!
