Please can anyone help me. Ive been to Turkey had my roaming etc turned off. Made a few calls that were urgent. I checked on myo2 for amounts and it said being updated will be 24hours. Still had nothing. Got home now and my bills £100s of pounds. Im feelin physically sick as I havnt this money. I realise if i used my phone its my fault but surely I should of had warnings as my bill is £40 a month normally. Please can anyone help me xx

As its O2 probably the best you can hope for is that they will agree to a payment plan.

Unfortunately you owe the money and you cannot blame O2 for not warning you.

Give them a ring and see what they can come up with .

Sorry if this is not what you want to hear but you need to be realistic.

I doubt a 'few' urgent calls would add up to £100s. What exactly are the charges for? Is it calls or data? I dont think Turkey is classed as Europe so charges will be higher but that seems very high.

    This doesn't make sense.
    1. Which phones allow you to turn off roaming? Most phones allow you to turn off data (with separate on/off settings for non-roaming and roaming) but I've never seen a phone that allows you to turn off roaming.
    2. If you did somehow have roaming turned off, how were you able to make calls?

You are correct NFH. To turn Off roaming you have to do it on the website or phone o2

it looks like the poster maybe didn't realise to receive voice calls when roaming can all add up

You can't use whatsapp without data connection. It had to be either data roaming or wifi.

You must have turned On data roaming to use 'WhatsAPP' ?

Probably more expensive than making a regular International call

If you are showing itemised calls on the bill they could not have been made through whatsapp.
As Grumbler points out you need to have a data connection in order to call and text through the whatsapp system.
I would imagine trying to make calls without a data connection they will default to the network hence the charges
It's not just about the money

You can't make calls via WhatsApp. If you press the "Call" button at the top of your WhatsApp messages with a particular contact, it makes a conventional phone call to that contact. This would have been obvious from the fact that the WhatsApp app wasn't making the call but the main phone function of your phone.
