Huge 02 bill but no warning emails or texts HELP

OP: the cost would already have been incurred long before they could warn you, since billing is not received from the roaming provider in real time. It can take hours or days to come back to 02.
And because Turkey is not in the EU, you would not have received any warning texts, nor would your daily billing have been capped.
And, since you turned data off, (or thought you had) what use would warning emails have been?
That's what I've always been led to believe, but...
What about PAYG abroad,
Surely there is something in place to stop a say £5 PAYG top up being used limitless because the billing isn't in real time. Or maybe it is in place and they make more money by not divulging it as far as contract phone is concerned?0
