One of the main issues is that decades of governments have benefited from immigrants and not done enough to improve the infrastructure of the country. The growing poverty gap is also a serious consideration.

I thought that the UKIP supporters were opposing HS Rail, wind farms, etc etc.....what infrastructure do you think we lack?

The poverty gap? So this is about wages?

Ok - what is going on outside of London ?

Concerns about the economic and social effect of mass immigration in an already overcrowded country -- strains on the NHS, education, social services etc. That's all probably so much of a given in London that nobody notices. There's a feeling among many that the indigenous population are becoming second class citizens, marginalised in their own country in favour of every 'minority' going.

Concerns about the EU, lack of control of our destiny, how much we put in for limited apparent benefit, the human rights fiasco, creeping federalisation. That also affects London but I can only assume that Europhilia is some sort of cultural norm there so that fewer are affronted by it.

Away from southern and Eastern England in particular, a feeling of detachment, that those in control -- predominantly perceived to be the London metropolitan elite -- have little understanding or concern about the conditions elsewhere in terms of unemployment, declining industries, lack of investment, the cost of living etc.

A general feeling that politicians of all major parties are not listening to the concerns of ordinary people with ordinary lives on practically every front, and a feeling that if something like UKIP gives them a major shake up and forces them to listen, then voting for it is worth a punt.

By the way I don't vote UKIP but I can empathise with a lot of the reasons why people apparently do.

The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

Where do you live? Is this your reality or just what you read in the papers?

Well to be honest immigrants tend to come to London not say Wyndham Norfolk - so why do you guys get to chose who enters Britain?

Immigrants come everywhere. DH and I are in wiltshire. My mother is somewhere else in sw. The hospital staffed my immigrants mainly I mentioned is also in sw somewhere else.

Agricultural units as seasonal workers increasingly are other eu nationalities.

Now , personally, I think good for them ,and its a shame people here won't do someone the unskilled work for the same conditions and money. But why pretend its a London or a metropolitan issue?

And why aren't WE going else where if there is work! instead of sitting here moaning? We have the same right to move for employment opportunity etc!

Well to be honest I never think about Europe much, other than as a holiday or work destination. I certainly don't lie awake at night worrying about creeping Federalism! I'm amazed to hear that the good people of Wyndham, Norfolk do!
Away from southern and Eastern England in particular, a feeling of detachment, that those in control -- predominantly perceived to be the London metropolitan elite -- have little understanding or concern about the conditions elsewhere in terms of unemployment, declining industries, lack of investment, the cost of living etc.

So what are the conditions like elsewhere that are so awful?

    So it's a protest vote?

The NHS is buckling under the weight of a rapidly ageing population.

The current government has introduced 'Help to Buy' but with no really coherent policy on house building or social housing.

There weren't enough school places regardless of how many immigrants arrived. The gov't knew some were arriving but done next to nothing to ensure that available school places were available.

As for the poverty gap, wages have been driven down (in real terms) due to the financial crisis and a weak uneven economic recovery.

In my opinion it is easier to blame, having to join an Nhs waiting list, not being able to get a council house or the fact you can't get a job, or can't get the wages you used to earn on your East European neighbour than the disastrous and short sighted social and economic policies of successive governments.
